It's time again to see what everyone is doing and how their projects are progressing. For me, I have several projects on/off the boil so here's a quick summary: * Lawn Bowls simulator: About 50% complete on this one, looking like it might be a possible money-maker, here's hoping. All physics done (the hard bit!), now gotta implement the rules, match types, career mode and AI for computer players. |

Paladin Games is working on new editors that will help us to quickly create game chapters. We want to release storyline based games on a comic book type schedule. To do this, we are creating editors that will allow us to create content on the fly and compile them into scripts. We are using C# and VB.NET with Truevision3D (www.truevision3d.com) and encrypted XML to store the scripts generated. I just alpha tested a 64 x 64 tile map: http://www.paladingames.com/PGGallery.aspx The map responds to arrow key movement and scrolls. If you look at the screen shot, it's running 700ish in the fps so far, (that will go down dramatically as we add more code ) so we are excited. The games are all 2D old school type games. We will move to 3D slowly but surely as we progress. We are building a code base with a simple concept and expanding. ------------------ We are at war: not to take lives, but to save them. |

However, I'm getting more time again for myself, and my personal projects include: - Shards of Heaven 1.0: a 3D animated stained glass window screen saver, plus editor (ShardEd) and toolkit for others to build images and plugins for it: 90% complete. |

Curry Member Posts: 134 From: USA Registered: 11-21-2002 |
I agree that it's dangerous--anything that powerful has its effects, and accidents are hard to rule out no matter how much technology you have. (Once there was an article about there being a very small chance of the whole planet being destroyed if the wrong kind of phenomenon happened at a particle accelerator. If they were right....) But about nuclear weapons for deterrence, I think they are--well, I'll just let Willie the Skunk tell about it when I finish that book. Curry |

In modern plants, the saftey measures should stop any reactions that get out of control, so even a meltdown should be unlikely. Is there any way to verify the information, or at least get more detail about the specific incidents? I wonder how much longer until fusion power becomes feasible. ------------------ |

then there is hydrogen fuel cells.. which uses water... seperates it into oxygen and hydrogen using electrolysis then later recombines then with extra energy. some cars use that.. except they have the hydrogen pumped into the car, instead of water which would need to be split. |

lol... another method I've been told when I did my internship and at Uni. "When you think your 90% done, you have only done 10%, you still have another 90% left to do :P" It's scary how close that is to being right! But anywho, a good design document and a proper schedule (say in MS Project) has always been able to help know what percentage is done, and what is left. Being 80% completed could mean you've got a month left, or even a year, depending on the project. ------------------ Startup Christian Games Company Producing Mobile/PC Games/Tools |

ok, news on my projects... oh and explanations of the older ones. boxing is a sort of clone of an old atari game, called, well, boxing. it's got (somewhat) better graphics... still have to implement hitpoints, at least i know how to now =D chicken is as i mentioned a frogger clone... it also came from an old atari game, where you're a chicken and you have to cross the road. i got the cars to restart, now i just have to make a points system. Chat Wars, i think some of you know what it is. just a sort of textbased medievil fighting game. it has some lame graphics, but only to give it a sort of interactive feel, the graphics don't actually do anything but give you an environment to walk around in. that i still have to implement hitpoints in. alright, Bouncy, some of you have seen. I have gotten the second demo done and uploaded. i have teleport pads which you can use to teleport to 3 places on the map. i have a cutscene (which isn't easy to do in BYOND) and a maze that you have to get through. i got the movement fixed, now i mostly have the programming out of the way, have to design the world more now. an as yet unnamed MMORPG, which i started with crazyishone, but he bailed out > j/k no hard feelings =D actually, he bailed out whilst i was writing this topic =D i'm in the very beginning stages of it. i have a somewhat story, it's a little quirky =D your mother gets kidnapped and you have to go all anakin-ish and rescue her =D it's dungeon based, so far i've got 2 dungeons in which i, the creator, got lost =D and i have an outdoors, but it's just a path surrounded by trees =D also i was working on just a quickie RPG for fun, pretty much done with that. it didn't have a name, still doesn't. if anybody who needs/wants an RPG base with no actual combat yet, and a lame character sprite (lol) can have it. you'll need to know/want to learn the BYOND language. so that's pretty much my projects, Bouncy and the MMO are pretty much the only ones i've worked on lately... i will eventually finish up boxing and chat wars, dont know about chicken... Budd. ------------------

quote: No not really. Basicly it started around 4 years ago when we used to run a site called think linux, which was shortened down to TK Linux. We then started working on a distribution over the summer holidays and we just named it TKLinux, although the name may change over time. It's hard to call it anything else after 4 years. We have been actively working on it, for around a year in total. So not very long. It was my job to write the installer. Basicly it was based on a minimal Linux installation and we built it up from there. Now you have the ability to download via FTP. We went for the curses interface because we used Slackware and that was all we were used to, none of these high res buffered images All-in-all it's fairly simple to create your own distro you just need to find a focus for it. TKLinux was about server and security not a desktop distro, it was meant to be minimal, fast and secure. Our websites ran on it perfectly and we also had our Ratbox irc server running on it, until our ISP phoned us up ------------------

So, does anyone on this forum actually make Christian video games??? I'm new, so I don't know anyone yet... If you do make Christian video games what do you do, where did you learn how to make video games, when was your latest release, etc. As for me, I'm just a girl who grew up playing video games on the side with my brother and are looking to see what's going on in the Christian world of gaming. |

Some of us are just dabblers really. Tinkering with stuff now and again to make small games or just for the experience to apply to bigger projects. Mack and Gump (if you can find them) have already released one full blown game (Eternal Wars: Shadows of Light) and are working on the sequel which is looking REALLY cool (screenshots at this link http://www.christiancoders.com/ubb/Forum4/HTML/000315.html ). Here are some screens from my last project which I was unable to finish because of problems with the original owner of the idea, this was my first full blown try at a 3D game( http://www.christiancoders.com/ubb/Forum5/HTML/000096.html ). Right now I'm working on a new project, a hack and slash RPG called The Ithia Chronicles, here's some concept art, a rough draft of a song, and a story segment from that ([url[http://www.christiancoders.com/ubb/Forum5/HTML/000172.html[/url]). People have all kinds of deifferent projects around here, so just keep your eyes peeled (One guy on here named Jari is even working on a MMORPG ). As for becoming a game designer it's not too terribly hard, but you have to take it slow and go one step at a time. If you team up with someone then that can ease your burden of learning (they learn sayyyy, programming for instance, and that means that as long as you work with them you don't have to learn programming). The different keys are usually divided up into programming (to program the game itself) and art (making models or 2D drawing if you're doing a 2D game, animating, texture making, ect.) each of those though has a sizeable list of things that go under it. There's alot of stuff and I don't want to intimidate you by the sheer length of the list, but if you're interested just ask around the boards. To really get the most out of the advice though I suggest you get a basic idea of what kind of game you want to make first, is it going to be 2D or 3D, what are the things you want most to do in the game, ect, and that should help others advise you on what course of action to take. Anyhoo, hope this helped. ~Ereon ------------------ Of course God knew what would happen if they used their freedom the wrong way: apparently He thought it worth the risk. Well, a few months back (under VERY friendly terms) I decided to leave XrucifiX and start my own crew--Team KAIZEN (Kaizen is a Japanese word meaning 'never stop being better than yesterday')----we have a place-holder website up right now at www.teamkaizengames.com and a myspace at www.myspace.com/teamkaizen. We hope to have more info up soon on our work-in-progress project, Shattered Soul (trust me, BIG news is coming extremely soon!) ------------------ [This message has been edited by zookey (edited August 03, 2006).] |

quote: Thanks for the intro Ereon Gump and Myself are from XRUCIFIX, a game studio that developes contemporary Christian games. We've already released 'Eternal War: Shadows of Light' (2003) to much praise, conterversy and has been labeled many times the 'Best Christian Action Game' by many media outlets. We're currently developing the sequel 'Eternal War: Nightmares' which will be released in multiple segments over a course of time. I primarily handle the Project Development of the title while also managing some of the CEO tasks as well. I also dabble in other things like basic level design, art, story and what not. Gump is our programming lead and does engine and gameplay and also lends a hand in multiple things with the project. The learning part for me what more along the lines of taking apart games and learning how they work on the inside. I also have a couple of design books by Chris Crawford and have done alot of reading online by various developers and designers. Oh and Welcome to CCN! |

Hey mjohnson My name is Jeff McArthur and my latest release was a little arcade game called Open Fire. If you want to take it for a sipin (its freeware) you can get it here. That game was just a learning project and was created by my studio BlueGill Flame (BGF) and another studio Blueˇtorch studios (BTS). Its not a christian game just like my studio isn't a christian gameing studio. I am a christian and want to use my skills (game art) to create great games. In my opinion games are just another method of telling a story, just like films or books. Also in my opinion only people can have the lable christian attached to them. A school, bank, gaming studio, band etc. can not be labled "christian" in the ture sense of the word. Often people like to lable things as "christian" if they were made by a christian or if they express the views that christianity presents. I don't think the lable christian is viewed as a good one by many people, it has been baddly represented throught the ages. Thus I much prefer to think of christianity as a religion and what I have is much more than that its a relationship with God and a world view. So the games that BGF create will express a world view, just like every game out there expresses some world view. The world view presented will be one based on good ethics, intelegent design, etc. We are taking an aproch to game design and development that will be similar to what J.R.R. Tolken and C.S. Lewis did with their writing. Therefore BGF is not a christian game studio, insted its a group of people, some christian some not that want to create great games, but games that tell a story and a story that has a reason to be told. My first game was just a learning project. It was fun, a great way to improve my skills as a game artist, as well as learning how to work with another developer. It has no story and therefore it dousn't alighn with the goals of BGF its just a stepping stone. Our next project (also in colaboration with BTS) is another one of these stepping stones. It is a moon lander remake done in full 3D with a different graphics style, full PhysX engine and will be released as shareware sometime end of this year or begining of next year. I learned everything for game art development on my own by fooling around with art packages and working on various projects, most of which never got finished. Welcome to CCN! Great to have a gamer girl around would love to talk to you some time about your opinion on comercial games and the way they present women. Take care. Jeff |
