fight the RIAA i am trying to start a commity of people to fight against the RIAA. this idea is meant to stop the RIAA with their ******** lawsuits against people taking advantage of todays great technology. this idea requires that people seriously fight back. i am looking for people who are not affraid to go to court over this and are serious about puting a stop the the RIAA ******** . i am trying to get people to download as much music as possible. THE IDEA IS TO DRAW ATTENTION TO YOURSELF. ONLY download music from cds that you have bought (this is legal)... the RIAA has no clue as to which cds you own. if by chance they try to prosecute you, you prove yourself inocent and sue them for wrongful-prosecution... i say lets see how the RIAA stands up to thousands of lawsuits at a time. this requires many many people to work and WILL NOT work unless there are thousands of people participating. im also asking that people help me get this idea accross the net as quickly as possible. we need as many people to see this and participate as possible. ive posted this on four other websites and so far all ive gotten is argument... including one that said that the idea is gonna go nowhere. please keep in mind that im not looking for arguments, and that the ONLY reason this idea would not work is because of people who think that it wont work and dont even try to help. also keep in mind that downloading music for personal music is the same as taping a movie you like. taping a movie for personal use IS LEGAL as long as you dont sell it... why should this be any diferent??? ive also gotten an argument saying that its only illegal because the government said that it is... remember that the people were meant to be the government since the beginning of this country. |

Side topic - I've been amused at how many coders (or comp sci students) that think copying programs is fine (yes, copyrighted ones, not open-source). Assuming they will one day earn their livlihood from generating code/programs - does anyone else see irony in this? ------------------ |

wow.. your like me and the public school system (DOWN WITH THE SYSTEM) uh, hmmm, I have mixed view on file sharing. ulitimatly, it's fine, but sharing copyrighted music, I dunno. however, I do that. so, yeah, a lawsuit by the RIAA would suck. Yeah, however, the RIAA is not looking for people who download music, but those who SHARE music. |

In all honesty, I think copying music, games, etc, that is supposed to be bought, is outright theft. I suggest you get all your stuff honestly and you won't care about the RIAA. ------------------ |

I'm wondering. If you own the music, why would you need to download it when there are oodles of free ripping programs that can do it in a few seconds? There is a bible verse that says something like "beware the borders, there be vipers there" which means even just to hang around the borders of right and wrong puts you in danger. My opinion may be wrong as I'm very unknowledgable about music sharing so take or leave my opinion. [This message has been edited by AmazingJas (edited September 21, 2003).] |

I don't believe in pirating music or software. The only times I ever use file-sharing programs are when I want to download some music that I already have on tape. 'Cause it's kinda hard to convert from tape to mp3, yeah. And even then, I don't share anything of my own, I just take. †Caleb† PS: I'm a Computer Science student. ------------------ |

Downloading copyright music that you haven't purchased is illegal full stop. I only rip cd's that i have, so that i can play them when i'm coding. More importantly what about all the things that are going on with SCO... thats actually something worth talking about. --D-SIPL ------------------ |

yeah, that's why I'm looking for places to download and buy music. I found PressPlay.com and Raphsody.net, tho, there are things that I don't like about them. I'm also waiting for Napster 2.0 |

Yes, I find it hilarious that people who one day will rely on software revenues for their income would think it OK to copy software. |

To me it would make more sense to protest with your wallet and just not buy any music from the major labels and bands any more... ------------------ Brice Manuel Jamajica -- The ultimate book on Jamagic programming. |

IF you want to buy a music CD or game, just go out and buy it. Whether or not it's overpriced or not, just buy the Cd if u want it. The real issue here is the morality of it, and thus, it's not important what the companies do, but what we do. It's not our place to say 'oh, these are overpriced anyway, then it's ok to illegially copy them'. If you can't afford them, then do without them. ------------------ |
