I recently stumbled onto game maker, and i see how you can do multyplayer and such (i don't know much about it yet) anyway i was wondering if game maker could be used to make a mmorpg. Though now that i think of it, since it isn't developed for that sort of thing it would probably be a resource hog. Any thoughts?

Were you not wanting to concentrate on a web-based game? There seems to be good feedback for that.

Making an MMORPG isn't easy.

If your not looking to develop your own engine, your probably best of going with an engine that is already developed or in development.

I think there are a couple of free MMORPG engines PlanetShift and Arianne.

There are 2 commercial ones i know of, they would be pretty expensive. I think they're called [url=]Butterfly Grid and Terrazona by Zona (not sure of the address for that).

Hope this helps.

I like using GameMaker, but I'm yet to do any multiplayer stuff. GameMaker is essentially an interpreter rather than a compiler so it can never run as fast as properly compiled code, and I think some people have really hit it's limits on their projects (not necessarily regarding net problems though). The prob is that you don't want to spend months making something and then finding that it runs like a dog, because there probably wouldn't be much that you could do about GameMaker.

I just found out though, about a pretty neat 3d engine addon for Gamemaker that seems pretty good. You can get it from http://home.tiscalinet.de/xception under the .dll section.

i personally don't have any interest in doing it, ju8st wondering. I did not thinki it ould be possible.. though i was thinking it woudl be used as a client and you'd make the server ,but it probably wouldn't be worth it. I was just wondering.
