A Christian friend of mine in Kenya runs an orphanage for children whose parents have died from AIDS, or those who have been abandoned because they themselves have AIDS. (AIDS has hit some of the communities there very hard.) He gives these kids love, a Christian home, medical care for those who need it, and makes sure they get an education.

A few days ago, I found out that his area is experiencing a famine, and the orphans don't have enough to eat--some had been without food for almost a week at the time of his writing!!! :-(

His charity is registered officially in Kenya but not in the U.S.--he still isn't able to receive tax deductible status for U.S. contributors. However, in this famine he is not able to cope with the needs of those 68 children with the usual local resources, and hearing how desperate the situation was, I decided I would have to try to help out. So I have set up a temporary emergency donation page at one of my online stores.

These kids are precious. Some may be even community and church leaders in the future, but all of them are wonderful. You can see some of them at:

http://humandignityinternational.org/kenya/ugunja/

(That picture was obviously taken in better times, I'm sure right now they are probably just shadows of that in the current situation without food.)

If you would like to help these children, I think your dollars would go pretty far. If you can give five, or fifteen, or fifty, I'm sure that the impact of your donation will be very great. Here's the link to make a contribution:

If you give, you'll receive a notice of how it was used and what it did in their lives.

Right now, there isn't any other source of help for them. It isn't supported by any U.S. organizations; he's a native Kenyan and it's his own local project that he did because of the great need in his community that would have otherwise gone unmet. I hope to help him get set up better for international donations in the future, but the need is immediate to help these kids get through the months of famine! So if you are willing to make a non-deductible charity donation right now, you may save a life, and you will certainly improve and brighten several!

Thanks,

Curry

Hi Chiefy, thanks!

I met Charles when he was over here in the States for some Christian leadership classes.

The site with the pictures of the kids is by someone else that knows Charles. Right now my Action for America site still doesn't have enough up yet to officially promote, although it is up on the internet, but I'm hoping to launch before too long. It will be focused mainly on helping America, but also on things Americans should do to help others when relevant. There will be social software too!

I'm going to send what I can to Charles before the end of this week, so if anyone wants to donate, now's a good time! It would really help them, and so far I haven't been able to get much for him. Every time I eat, I wish they could have some of it. But I think a little bit will help, so I'm going to go ahead. In the future I'm going to try to set him up with a web site and tax-deductible donations.
