Just thought I'd see what was up with everyone. I've been out of touch for awhile and I'm just getting myself back into the gaming stuff.

I'm working with the book: "Programming RPGs with DirectX" by Jim Adams.

My goal is to get to where I'm doing basic RPGs by the end of the year. I'm also working on 3D modelling with Truespace.

Has anyone played the newer games out lately?

Heaven Bound
Eternal War: Shadows of Light
Omnious Horizons

any of those? What are some good ones?

What's everyone up to?

played the demo for Eternal War, and Heaven bound. And have Ominous Horizons (along with Catechumen.)

K, Ominous Horizons, Catechumen and Eternal War ROCK!!!!
(yeah, you like that Mack, don't you)

Heaven bounds cool, they make it allittle cartoony, and based more on puzzles and maneavers then I would like... and sometimes I find the motions weird. also, I don't like how they save...

And we all know which is the better game, right?

Just joking. That's what I really enjoy about the Christian gaming industry, no compition, we all work towards the same goal all doing what we love to do.

I enjoyed all the games mentioned, although I feel like all of them could be improved on. However time and experiance makes its mark on future releases and hopefully people will support each other to ensure that such releases do become a reality.

Programming unfourtunately is not my skill, my primary focus is design and production manager. Soooo 'Whatcha designin' nowadays?' is my question, hopefully everyone will see soon enough.

Glad you enjoyed Eternal War ArchAngel We have a update coming down the line within a week that I'm sure people will enjoy.

Right now... Avalanche interactive is designing...

Bean and Rye: (some title we're gonna chose)

Rye is stupid, but he think's he's smart... Bean is too stupid to realize what stupid is...
Yeah.. still designing, I really got to start working on it.
It's an adventure game, (like Space Quest and King's Quest).
Wait...I just explained this in another topic... oh well. that's cool.

I'm sorta in the middle of deciding where to go next - I don't have a solid, implementable game idea right now. I really want to kick start CobraA1 Software with something, though.

Elevator Action remake http://home.iprimus.com.au/j_brown/elevatoralpha.zip

Also a sequel to MS 3D Movie Maker, but it's months away...

Re: Eternal War vs Heaven Bound, I had a really quick look at both, and unfortunately I found that both games gave me headaches really quickly, which is a prob I haven't had for years. HeavenBound did on the surface seem enticing, I might have another look after I load up on Aspirin...Still, it's good to see some inroads being made.

I liked Catechumen, but it moves so fast on my machine that I really have to pay attention. I got stuck at one part and quit. I may reload it on my new box and try it again.

I did play the Heaven Bound demo. I liked the idea of the game. I liked having "Faith" over "Mana" and answering Biblical questions to get faith. The models could use some work, but the background was pretty cool.

It's all more than I have done. I've been working on my 3D modeling and game programming. I don't have a super specific project yet. I'm also getting paladingames.com to a more workable state.

Here's my latest attempt at modelling. The head needs alot of work, but I'm getting the basic features down. Arms and legs are next, then I'll focus on feet and hands.

Cool model, what formats does Truespace support for exporting?

The model still needs work, but hey, it's a start.

Truespace does x files, 3ds, cob, and a few others. I'll have to look when I get home. I also own Milkshape, so once it's in 3ds, I can import to Milkshape and get it out to anything. MD2, MD3, etc, but I typically use x files.

At the moment, I'm working on an old-school tactical RPG. Sort of along the lines of Arc the Lad 2 (Minus the Earth-worship stuff, of course ) I've done the requisite Break-Out clone and stuff like that, but this is my first major project. Here's a very early screenshot

And it's getting better all the time, not sure if you downloaded the latest version, which has most bugs fixed, and shooting/dying, and you can complete the level.

Thank you. I've infiltrated and been covertly spying on your so-called "secret" organization for about a month now! BWA HA HA HA HA!

Basically, I was moved to include Christ in my life rather than simply going to church on Easter and Christmas and calling myself Christian about a year or so ago. Since I write games as a hobby, I then decided to make them thematically Christian. So, I started looking for sites involving like-minded people, and came across this one eventually.

And Ganymede is nicest in April, so you should plan your trip accordingly.

I'm really trying to spend more time getting my graphics up. I need to get into texturing now. I have a Wacom drawpad for the pc, but it will take some time to learn good texturing. Can anyone point me to some good online tutorials or books for texturing in photoshop?

My Current 3D model Project:

Any critiques? I know it needs work.

Thanks,

I doubt it. We usually reveal that once they reach a "ranking member"

Yes, Ganymede is nice in april, have a military base located near the south pole. Visit it every once in a while. okay, losing track....

who is?

well back to the subject, for the last 3 mornings (before going to work) I have been spending a few hours putting together a function program that will figure LOTTERY winnings

my syndicate, since 1999 has gone from 17 members to 16 to finally 15 members

we pay MONTHLY (all members pay be S/O into a syndicate bank a/c)

10 pay for WEDS and SATS and 5 pay for SATS only

the program will currently accept a month's worth of lottery numbers and figure out "who" won the prizes but currently it takes no account of WEDS or SATS

yesterday it was "missing"

e.g say the winning numbers were 22, 39, 45, 46, 47 48

if a members numbers were held in memory 48, 39, 45, 46, 47, 22 then my program would say "4 matches" not "6 matches" as it should

I sat looking at the code for 15 minutes before "seeing" the solution

and the joke IS I have programmed all this in 1999, BUT only on my Atari ST so now that "has to go," I have to program it all again on my PC in BB nearly finished
I have just done the finishing touches on a "members page"
it displays a table with name, chosen numbers, date joined and "status" e.g manager, deputy manager, senior member, unpopular member, git member

well all that sounds tosh compared to what you guys are doing still - never mind, a little minor project for me, who else??

My bull head dood is the bad guy. I'm trying to get modeling down in truespace then import those models in DirectX. I just have to work it out some more.

I'm trying to think of a good storyline for the bull guy and a Paladin type character that may have to slay him to rescue someone. I won't start this project until November however. I'm still in the learning phases.

Yeah, Paladins are cool. I refer to a paladin as a christian in a spiritual warfare, armor of God, stuff like that.(My software company used to be called "Paladin Software... sound familiar? ) I'm probably gonna make a game with a "Paladin" I'll try not rip off your game, eh?
I'd want to play your game eventually. sounds cool.

Wow, Paladin Software? Yeah, since I'm paladingames.com right now, it makes it interesting. I'll change the name if anyone tells me it's taken already, but the URL wasn't . Oh well, I'm going to finally finish my website in the month of July. It's going to take alot of work, then I'm ramping up for my first RPG game starting in November. I'm looking into scripting at the moment so we will see how it goes. I want to have a basic scripting engine ready for my RPG when I start it.

Here's my latest 3D model I'm working on:
http://www.paladingames.com/images/spike.jpg

I have to start working on texturing and getting my skills up there. Lots to do.
