I am just a little curious, if you people were to create the "Ultimate RPG" what would it be like, such as features, plotline, etc.?

just curious..... and maybe I am looking for a couple of "basic" ideas

er, I was to create the ultimate RPG, hmmm. heh heh

3d, of course. Beautiful graphics. Very immersive. Hecka fun to play. Fast paced. cool animations. oh, get cool music from P.O.D., Disciple, 12 stones and stuff. Those cool movies. very cool Mulitplayer capabilities. No bugs and stuff. expansion packs, and have those fansites which make extra models and maps, etc.

It'll probably be about Spiritual warfare.
Probably with Armor of God. come on, upgrading your sword of spirit, too cool. (not made to look dorky, but Sic' like it is!)
or maybe Angelic warfare, where a person could, say, choose an angel class (maybe corresponding to, like, a warrior class, or a wizard class, etc.) Or you could just devolop yourself, as in Dungeon Siege.
basically, you're fighting for God, slaughtering demons by the thousands...

P.s. be careful to take my ideas...

I like a lot of ArchAngel's ideas, although actually implementing all of them seems like an impossibly huge task to me.

The story is THE most important aspect of any RPG. Cool graphics and sound are good, but they're not the main thing to focus on. Too many movies nowadays are relying too much on special effects and not taking the time to tell a good story. The same thing is happening with some games. Gimme a good story!

Sorry though, I'm not creative enough to make up my own story. One involving time travel might be cool. Any of you guys ever play Chrono Trigger? Best game ever made for the SNES in my opinion.

yeah, haha! they're not easy. but hey, an ultimate RPG is not easy to make.

And yes, The plot is very important. Many games and movies come out with really cheap plots. a good plot gets you in the game.
But also, in RPGs, Character devolopment is very very important. that's almost what RPGs are based on. It's what keeps you playing, to get your guy up to the next level.

in addition to what was said above - how about 2 more areas of game environment :

1) remember in TOMB RAIDER?
a trick used in the first TOMB RAIDERS was to FLOOD an area that was being explored, or even DRAIN an area of water

by doing this, the player was elevated or lowered to a NEW AREA that previously could not be accessed

the graphics which displayed the area achieving a "new lease of life" were impressive

2) character transfer
there are several characters to move 'through' in your team
is this taken for granted in the RPGs you're talking about?
the best example I know of is PROJECT EDEN for character transfer
makes such a fun game 10 times better

It would have to capture me really early, i mean if i don't get into a game in the first 5 minutes, i put it down.

It would have to give me a sense of acheivement, and make it me feel a real part of the game, and very realistic.

There about my only requirements.

Have you noticed that RPGs basically are just stories really?

There's not alot of NEW features in RPGs right now.

The latest was the MMORPG addition to the mix, but beyond that, we've gotten alot of "betters"

Better graphics
Better combat systems
Better spell effects
etc.

There have been a few smaller additions like housing and mounts in game, but besides that, not a whole lot of new features.

I have no idea what those new features are however , but a few new BIG ideas would be cool.

I think some new features would be cool. My favorite RPG game right now still has to be Zelda - Ocinara of Time.

Not the best graphics, but great story and great item functionality.

I honestly like team play in RPGs. I used to play Everquest all the time. Not because it was an awesome game or anything, but because I could hang out with friends online and share adventures. (It was pretty cool however)

I think Network Play of some sort is important to me, but not mandatory, for fun RPGs.

I currently play Asheron's Call 2. It lacks story, but otherwise, great mapping system, great skill tree system, great combat and spell system.

I think all those are important.
