be the first to hear Forgiven's new song. Well newly recorded and mixed anyway. This is our final selfrecorded and edited mixdown - though its not mastered yet so turn up those speaker volumes

the song is called Holding On..
and you can download the mp3 (about 6Mb) with the following link.

We want some christian and non-christian feedback..

Hey, this is pretty cool. The vocals are a little down in the mix, but I'll work them out. The song is pretty good though.

Not bad at all! Forgiven is coming along really well and I feel like this song is alot better than some of the other ones. I didn't really find the vocals quiet, music build ups and general playing are really well done. Most importantly I didn't find myself turning it off and deleting it any way into the song.

Pretty good. I'm impressed. It's a lot better than I thought it would be. I thought the intro was about 10 seconds too long, but otherwise, it was a commendable song. I'm ready for you guys to do an album. Only half kidding there.

Christian .. Hehe i did ask for a christian view
Brain (and whoever) here is another one
http://www.godcentric.com/forgiven/faithmp3.mp3

this is the first one that was recorded and mixed at home rather than in the studio.. will be on the new album? b.t.w have you heard the songs from the first album? which the band doesn't like any longer , and would rather rerecord the songs they do like..

caleb,
i'm with you. My own advice was that the intro was too long. its ok for a gig, because you are wanting to build suspense or whatever and you have a captive audience. However for a CD track you want to introduce some major musical features of hte song quite quickly.. I know when i am listen to an album in the store to see whether i want to buy it.. i only listen for about 30 seconds to a song to see whether i want to listen to more of it..
When a band is used to doing a 15 minute lead break during a gig its quite hard to get them to make radio length tunes - but we are producing a single called "invinsibile sunshine" and trying to get it to radio length..
It is very good to get some critical feedback to know where we can tweak the recording to get it a bit better..

Ever thought of recording in more than stereo, possibly encoding using 6 channel Ogg Vorbis? I can't wait until more artists start using DVD-A and/or SCCDs.

Hey Klumsy,

These are really great. I love the sound, and I love then length. I'm a fan of longer 6-10 minute or even longer songs, the industry-standard 3-4 minutes is way too short imho.

My tastes in music are extremely varied, and I definitely like your stuff. It reminds me a bit of some little-known Christian bands I listened to in the 80s (but I forget some of their names: Altar Boys and Momento Mori were two of them). Whatever. Anyway, let me know more about the first album, and keep us up to date on the next one.

Yep we have thought about it.. we have messed with that is it THX? some number 5 - you know the souround sound used in DVDs..
we mix with Cubase CX and it has alot of nice features..
We haven't bothered with DVD-A until we buy a dvd writer..

Brian,
yeah i like the length, some of the songs i'll show you soon, have quite distinct musical features, that pan out over a long time, and don't cut down to 3 to 4 minutes well.. but we do need to do more radio length ones, so we can get on the radio.. andway i'll find my three favourite songs from the first album.. and send post links to them.. then in a few days i'll do a few more..

bkewl
despite the fact i share the same name with the lead singer/guitarist , the band has only 3 musical members and neither of them is I
I am friend, come new CD producer, holder of the rights of the Old CD, financier of new album CD production, soon to be maker of realtime 3d effects on largescreen and concerts and gigs.. fellow visionary and prayer partner.. and sometimes a royal pain in the butt - like when i pressure them to keep cutting 'invincible sunshine' down to make a radio , music video friendly length. I suppose maybe i am also their marketter since i know quite some famous musicians that i can get to pass on our stuff to the top execs and producers and some labels like EMI, though we aren't the band is not sure that they want to be signed.. they want to do things God's way and not be restricted by the usual means of the industry..
