does anybody know of any software that does the following (or at least a good part of the following)

i want to index, catogorise, and possibly add notes to directories and files, that are backed up on CD... and not on the harddrive... however you can access the information, and search it on the harddrive
so basically an index file is saved on the harddrive

that way i can save say a 10 gig HD on 20 cd's.. and be able to search them all (well by name, filesize, note) without having to insert one CD after another

so its kind of an offline CD indexer or something

it would be great if this was also a filesystem device driver , but that could be asking for two much

Sorry, I don't know of any.

i found some that i like, just in case anybody is interested.. both the following are free, this first one is rather new.. but i like the features of catogory and comment for each file/directory if you wish, and being able to search by that... also i like its logical collections, that you can put various pysical collections hyrachy in, that don't have to relate to the pyscial

this program is called disclib found at http://www.lyrasoftware.com/disclib/

a more common , been around for a while, award winning program that is very good except not having individual comments is Offline CD browser 3.1 found at
