nothing to do with gaming...I just got two notebooks @ auction w/ Win NT...tried setting up Win 98 w/ no luck....problem I am having is trying to get rid of the NT partitions...can't format that part of the drive, so I'm loosing half it's capacity...I don't have the setup software for NT...anyone have any ideas as to how I can format my harddrive & start over from sratch with the 98 installation?? I keep getting a warning saying that I can't format that half of the drive.
Thanks & God Bless to all!!!!!

I'm not an expert when it comes to operating systems, but I believe you will have to fdisk your hard drive. Once a partition is formated with NTFS it cannot be changed back to FAT.

Anyone else agree or am I wrong on this?

i think it can be, but the only way i have seen that might be able to do this is with a mandrake linux disk 1, just let that autorun on your system when you boot and let it go till it asks about partitions and set custom, clear all and set it to fat32...im sure i just confused you but if i didnt good, maybe somone else can make more sence out of it then i can

There are third party programs that can convert NTFS to FAT32 - if you're willing to pay for them. Partition Magic should be able to do this.

If you don't mind destroying all the data on the partition, you can use FDISK to delete it.

If you want to start from scratch as you say, delete all partitions, then add one big FAT32 (primary) partition at the maximum size possible. That should be easiest. If there's space left (although I doubt it; FAT32 can handle pretty large partitions), add an extended partition.

Yes, I'm a Christian. Yes, I play Quake 3.

What part of that do some people not understand?

I didn't realize fdisk wouldn't reformat a hard drive even though it had an NTFS partition. Well... learn something new everyday
