I search the net for 8 hours trying to find a freeware or shareware program that is not time limited that is like macromedia fireworks.

Any suggestions?

I have fireworks myself, but I wish to make some tutorials for creating a rpg and would like to show people how to make graphics as well. But there is nothing like fireworks out there that does vector graphics with bevels, shadows, glows, textures.

I once heard of a program called Dogwaffle. A few game developers i knew were using it, and it's freeware, maybe worth checking out.

I'll try and dig the URL up for you...

Dogwaffle is a painting tool, so that probably won't help. It's like Metacreations Painter (not sure if that's the right company). The GIMP is good for Photoshop-style manipulation(www.gimp.org), but I'm thinking that doesn't fit what you want either. There are some good programs for Linux, but not much in the way of vector graphics for the Windows platform. I think Satori PhotoXL is about the closest we have for free.

If you spent 8 hours searching, you have probably been thgough most of the ones out there.

It may be hard to find something exactly like what you need. I generally try CFS when looking for freeware, here is a link to their graphics page:

If that fails, I try Jan's. Perhaps Jan has something on his freeware site. He turns out some unique software. A link to his graphics page:

Thanks all for your comments.

Satori is about the closest I can get to vector graphics. I have tried all the ones you have suggested. I guess I am glad that I got fireworks 1.0 for free from a computer magazine about 4 years ago.

I still use that program and find it the best.

Ahh well, my tutorials will just be about programing, because my guess is that most people won't be able to afford fireworks 1.0, and so tutorials on how to use it will not be worthwhile. (and fireworks is pretty easy to master in a short amount of time.)

Thanks lostreflections for the freeware links.

I will update you when my tutorial site goes live. I really want to have it completed, or nearly so before I put it on the net.

Nothing more frustrating than going through a tutorial that is not completed. By the way, for this tutorial I changed my website color from a boring black background to a nice reddish pink. Looks fantastic.

Anyway, will let you know.
