Hi Kev.

I like your website, and if you are looking at making an Christian RPG with the RPG Toolkit, that would be great. I haven't had a very close look at it, but it is something that a lot of kids could use in their first outing of making an RPG, it you could make some tutorials.

With RPG's there are a few ideas around on the board from past posts, so you might want to browse around.

Otherwise
Usually picking a Middle Ages theme where Christianity is persecuted is a good theme to follow. Usually the Christian game goes this way: The Christian is the underdog and has to overcome numerous barriers to succeed in whatever mission.

You will have to decide whether violence is the way to achieve the goal, or if magic is applicable (personally I am not to sure of having either in a game).

You may wish to do the other major theme of Christian Games: A person is about to give up on life, but rather than ending it, He/She decides to search for God.

This type of Game allows for violence and magic, but rather than powers increasing as the Character gets stronger, they decrease as He/She begins to rely on God and learn more about Christianity.

The third major theme is the Spiritual warfare theme. This theme allows you to use violence against demons etc.

So there are some ideas. Once you have your major theme, filling in the details just takes a bit of imagination. Start a small project first, or else you may get overwhelmed by everything that is involved in making an RPG.

God Bless

Actually I did develop a Christian role-playing game.

The setting is Israel of the past. Each character can role-play either a member of the tribes of Israel or surrounding areas. Levites are, of course, priests. The magician classes are NPC classes which resort to trickery, and deception in order to further their aims, and form the base adversaries for the characters who attempt to defeat these evil influences.

The rulebook is buried under a lot of dust at the moment, since I never did see a market for a paper and pen version of this, given all the anti-RPG teachings of the church. (Sadly, somewhat misguided I believe.)

While worship of devils and demons is a straighforward "Duh! How stupid can you be?!?!?" the act of roleplaying itself comes straight out of the imagination, or "Sub-creation" as J.R.R. Tolkien called it. His Lord of the Rings trilogy was merely an exercise of creative energies, as is the act of Roleplaying. In fact, many RPG games are based on his books.

Both J.R.R. Tolkien and C.S. Lewis (author of The Chronicles of Narnia) were devout Christians (Tolkien was Catholic, Lewis was Anglican), and their stories reflected a deeply theistic worldview.

I am sure that with some proper development, you can come up with a top-notch idea for a computer version of a Christian based RPG!

Good luck!

Hi Guys,

I have been thinking with Neverwinter Nites comming out soon we might have an oppurtunity to use that game system to our purposes. I'd like to hear your thoughts about that?

Neverwinter Nights (NWN) may be somewhat restrictive in developing story in a milieu other than Forgotten Realms. I am hoping this is not the case, and will find out soon enough when it arrives on Wednesday! =)

You'll hear more when I've had a chance to play with the development toolset.
