Hello all,

first post for me.

I am a hobbiest programmer. I program games and gui apps mostly in basic. Although, I am hoping to start doing some things in Linux this year.

Anywho, a few years ago I started on this ... It is a program that is made for missionaries in the middle east.

http://christianmissiontrips.org/download/AFCEZArabicSetup.exe
http://www.download.com/AFC-EZ-Arabic/3000-2279_4-10699647.html?tag=lst-0-1

I was curious if anyone had any ideas...

1.) How I could put a Gospel message into the program
2.) How I could make it more better for missionaries

I am thinking about adding a quiz, but have no idea how to do random questions, random answers etc...

Also want to try and make it multiplatform.

John

Welcome to CCN!

What does your program do? (I can't install it here.)

What is your language of choice and experience?

God Bless!

Hello,

I can currently program in a bunch of Basic dialects... RapidQ, AutoitScript, Brutus2d, etc...

I am currently learning Python.

The program has a basic english arabic (editable) dictionary. This would mean that people could make dialects for it.

I am also thinking about making some various games to help with quizing them.

If you are on a linux box, i can hand you a version that works fine on WINE. It has some features stripped... But otherwise works fine.

I use Linux 99% of the time and would like to try that program out. Btw, if you'd like any help I'm quite fluent in Python and have a Mac so I can test the multiplatform-ness of your current/future version(s) and help you with any Python questions you have.

Hello,

here is a stripped down version...

Note that the sound does not work. In the MS version there the html page included is embeded in the program, with buttons that can be clicked and help the user memorize various bible verses in Arabic.

I want to try and include various items, fruit, house, etc... that can be clicked upon and play that word in arabic- in the dialect that the user has selected.

Then have some way of compiling quizes from those sounds. Like the sound would play the arabic word for apple, then the user has to click the apple etc...

Or it could get more advanced and do the same with letters etc.

There are many directions that it could go. The need is certainly great, as there are not many, if any tools available online for teaching missionaries.

Note: EZArabic.exe is the normal runfile for windows. Wine.exe is the stripped down version.

In response to both these, I'll point you both to Slime Forest Adventure -- an old-school-style RPG where part of the gameplay is to learn Japanese.
