quote: Ok first please let us know what kind of programs you are trying to open. In most cases you need to mark the file as executable. I'm assuming it's not because Kate is being launched. Right click on the file, and click the "Permissions" tab and then check "Is executable". Here's a screenshot. ![]() Not sure what you mean. ------------------ "Oh, bother," said the Borg. Kubuntu is basicly Ubuntu with KDE as the default window manager, rather than Gnome. KDE functions in a similar way to Windows, in that you click the various drop-down menu's and run the appropriate applications. Example .bin files are basicly text files so would open with a Text editor, it appears your default is Kate. ------------------ |

Spade, that information is not enough for helping... I dont know about the boot ini but it maybe that you just need to setup the windows booting from boot loader that was installed by kubuntu. It should be called grub? ------------------ [VoHW] (Help needed) [Blog] - Truedisciple (mp3) |

quote: That should never happen. If it does it probably means you erased windows. Can you see the Windows partition from Linux or any other OS? EDIT: I've had Windows on my first partition for 3 years. In those 3 years Linux has never corrupted the Windows install, and I have installed over 7 different distros, and reinstalled Linux over 15 times. I have re-installed Windows over 5 times. Neither of the 2 OSes messed with each other except the boot loader, which can easily be re-installed. Yes. Eclipse is a popular one. I used Netbeans for Java and KDevelop for other languages, but you can use KDevelop for Java if you like. You need to install the development files for GCC. Fire up Adept and search for gcc. Install anything with "-devel" in the package name. It's quite possible, but first, can your BIOS boot USB devices? My BIOS was last updated in 2004 and it can't (I don't feel like flashing it right now). ------------------ "Oh, bother," said the Borg. "We've assimilated Pooh." my windows drive isn't on c:\ it's on f:\ and when i installed kubuntu i told it to install on the largest continuous free space. and i can see all of my former drives ,except my new linux drive is the third drive, the swap space is at last and my windows is next to last. so... i can open my windows drive but kubuntu has problems mounting my c:\ drive, and my c drive is ntfs so even if i hava a startup disk i don't think i would be able to find boot.ini and repair it. is there any way to mount ntfs volumes on kubuntu, or is there any free windows repair softwares?? the thing is i can find hal.dll using kubuntu but windows can't seem to find it . ------------------ Jesus answered, "I am the way and the truth and the life. quote: Try downloading "The Ultimate Boot Cd". I don't have the lnk. Sorry. I think I know what part of your problem is. You need windows to run chkdisk on your partitions. There are some linux tools available (such as ntfsprogs) but depending on the type of corruption, windows might be the only tool that can repair the partitions.... windows sucks. Gimme Reiserfs or XFS over ntfs/fat32 any day. ------------------ "Oh, bother," said the Borg. "We've assimilated Pooh."
