Aside from my job and the time I spend working on the MITE engine, I have been looking into developing music software. My dream has always been to start a company that develops video games. However, lately I have been researching the music market to see if there is any opportunity.

My idea is to simulate a rack that can be used to mount virtual modules. An example of this type of program is Reason. What my program will do is get input from an audio file or midi instrument and send it through the chain of modules which can then be exported to an audio file or recorded onto a CD. The audio will be manipulated in real-time which gives the user an ability to modify the sound while playing back a recording.

Now you may be wondering why this is any different than Reason, the program mentioned above. Well instead of just using effects that are designed only for my software, I would like to support other types of plugins such as VST, VSTi, and DXi. This gives the user a vast range of virtual instruments and effects.

I would appreciate any feedback from musicians or non-musicians. Thanks!

Dude this sounds freakign awsome! And yes, I am a muscian (Piano, Bass, try at vocals, haha) and I use audacity. But this sounds vastly superior. I am very intrested. E mail me at reaganmeister@gmail.com (or just message me on the MITE group. Or, we can meet on the MITE chat ) and tell me some more.

I think FruityLoops already does what you are suggesting. It's a really nifty program. I have not heard of Reason, but maybe I will check it out.

Check out FruityLoops: http://www.fruityloops.com/
