quote: The video is a lie Lord, why am I using a Portal reference when I haven't played the game???? Oh well I have to STRONGLY disagree with the truth part---take notice of following: A) According to www.vgchartz.com --the PS3 sold the same amount of consoles in its' first year that the 360 did in its' first year, and was only 1.5 million shy of selling the same amount the PS2 did in its' first year (this is with the PS2 having absolutely no competition, a lot more hype and half the price)--and those sales were made before the recent price cuts. B) I owned every console recently (PS2, GC, XB, XB360, Wii and PS3) on launch day (I am kind of a hardcore console gamer)----the 360 didn't interest me enough so I traded it in, the Wii is a similar story although I want one again for Smash Bros Brawl---but, with the PS3, I have never owned as many games as I do now only a year after launch---with the PS2 (which was previous record), I had like 2 or 3, with the PS3 I have 8 retail games and like 5 or more downloaded games, not counting the games my bro owns since I don't play those ones. So, as far as I am concerned, LOL I am having fun and isn't that the console's job?? C) Cost? Let us compare: PS3 Standardized, upgradable HDD (uses laptop HDD's) Now, 360 XBOX 360 Elite (only one to come with HDMI) 449.99 So what would you pay? $4-500 dollars (or, go back in time to when it was $600 even) for a PS3 or $1,000 for a 360 of comparable features? Not to mention you still have to contend with: 1) 360 has a 1-3 failure rate. This would normally be ok if you could buy GameSpot's warranty (the best in the gaming industry, literally the ONLY warranty I have seen that allows you to take your console to the store and get a replacement on the spot) but here is a kicker: GameSpot has told their stores to stop selling the warranty on the 360's a few months back because they are tired of replacing the shoddy workmanship, and to replace it through Microsoft currently takes around 6 weeks. The PS3's failure rate is almost non-existent, I have only heard of one breaking and it was due to human failure issues (in other words, my grandma kept messing with the thermostat, the temp in my room got over 100 degrees and the PS3 and TV malfunctioned--I won in the end tho Sony replaced my PS3 within 2 weeks and paid shipping--and Sears gave me 500 bucks to replace the TV--got a Sony Bravia) 2) Since hard drives aren't standard on 360 (lower end models don't have it), developers can't rely on it. Whereas, on PS3, they can--so they can cache data and develop larger download content (both add ons and separate games) and know all people can use it. 3) I used to play on XBOX Live a lot---I was uber jacked for the 360 when it first came out--but I had a lot of lag problems on Live (mostly because it is by and large a peer-to-peer service), but Sony's PlayStation Network is free and I have had almost no problems (it is server based, mostly)----Live my problems were like 30% (so, 1 in 3 games had some hiccup), whereas PSN it is less than 5%---plus PSN is adding features all the time and steadily catching up to Live in feature-set, yet remaining free. Not to mention that MS recently decided to go hardcore corporate on their customers--they made it so you can't download free content on Live until a week after it is released if you have a Silver (free, non-multiplayer) account (Gold people still get it day 1). 4) Sony has openly embraced making the PS3 an open platform. Mark Rein of Epic games has stated this is why they decided to focus on the PS3 version of Unreal Tournament 3 first (they haven't even begun work on a 360 version): you can take ANY mods you make on the PC version and port it to the PS3--including code, which means you basically turn the PS3 into an Unreal 3 Console Development kit for indie developers--and Epic has already stated that if you make a mod awesome enough to be its' own game they will help you out with getting in touch with publishers. Rein said he isn't even sure if it is doable on the 360 because of MS' policies (they are going to talk to MS early next year to see their options). Plus, look at LittleBigPlanet---again, user generated content that is only possible on an open platform (or atleast, more possible and more open). 4) The HD-DVD drive is only for movies, and not for games. Plus I have read online (I think on Kotaku or Destructoid, can't remember which one) a statement by a 360 fan who said that HD-DVD playback (and DVD playback also) is not that great, whereas the PS3 was given an award in Europe for being a phenomenal Blu-Ray player as well as a game system and overall entertainment system. Plus, don't quote me on this, but I think there is issues with how the HD drive works on 360--it connects via a usb cable---problem is that if you are watching a film that uses an image constraint tolken, it will downgrade the film to standard definition if the signal goes through anything except a HDMI cable (this is an anti-piracy issue). So, if these image constraint tolkens become common place (who knows, although some studios are pressuring it), only the PS3 will be able to play hi-def movies correctly (out of current gen consoles). The PS3's BR-drive is also used for games, Rein even praised it saying how he loved that they could fit all the maps from the PC version (they originally thought they couldn't do it) on one disc. LOL sorry for the book, man I loved writing tho--hehe I need a life--oh well on to playing games!!!! ------------------ |

well, that video was a lot more true a little bit ago. Now, PS3 has been outselling the Wii. Blu-ray seems to be winning, also. ------------------ |

quote: BTW (second reply to this)---the PS3 outsold the Wii in Japan---but the Wii is selling more again thanks to WiiFit (the Wii sold like 70k this last week and the PS3 sold like 37k where they both have been around the 40-50k mark the past few weeks)---but PS3 sales have jumped 300% since the price drops----and the PS3 has been outselling the 360 in Europe for some time----here in the states Sony will probably start catching up in 2008 and overtake by 2009 or 2010-----I am not counting the Wii because I think most Wii owners are playing casual games and most PS3 owners like some casual mixed with more hardcore--which means only some PS3 owners (who bought PS3 first) will get a Wii and very few Wii owners (who bought a Wii first) would get a PS3--they are two different types of people hehe! ------------------ |

Haha!!!! Both videos were hilarious. good links guys. BTW I disagree about the PS3. But I've never owned one so I guess you have more credibility here. But I think it's just a matter of personal opinion. I'm more of a Wii guy, mostly because I like all the old Nintendo games, and I have brothers and sisters, and I'm a geek for motion response stuff. ------------------ |

quote: The Sixaxis is motion sensitive too if you like shooter games you might like WarHawk--you actually fly planes in that by tilting the controller as ifyou are holding the plane in your hand (you can run around and shoot and drive ground vehicles too). ------------------ |

I'm with Buddboy, http://www.docadamsaudio.com/sarcasticgamer/ringoffire_sarcasticgamer.mp3 lol. I haven't played it, but personally, I prefer the look, and the conceptualization of Wii. ------------------ |

I can see why some people would like the Wii better (personal taste) but for me the PS3 rules The one thing the PS3 can't do is Smash Bros--so I will get a Wii for that---but until then I have Uncharted, Ratchet, Resistance, Warhawk and a bunch of others I am WAY too lazy to type out LOL! ------------------ |

I agree, liking the wii (currently) over the PS3 is understandable, but the only thing I could imagine the Xbox people liking that they have is Halo. ------------------ |
zookey Member Posts: 1902 From: Great Falls, Montana, USA Registered: 04-28-2002 |
quote: LOL I said I can understand it due to personal taste just clarifying hehe---cause it is my personal taste to vote PS3 over Wii---yeah Halo isn't that much IMO and it is amazing it can carry a console.... ------------------ |
