I was goofin' off researching Christianity in Japan and came across the profiles of two interesting people: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mitsuo_Fuchida http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chiune_Sugihara "When asked why he risked his career to save other people, he quoted an old samurai saying, "Even a hunter cannot kill a bird which flies to him for refuge." He also talked about how, even tho the Empire of Japan's gov disliked his actions (remember, this is WW2--they were on Hitler's side back then) he could do nothing else because he wanted to help human beings---even after his consulate in Europe was closed he spent hours in a hotel room faking visas so Jews could get to safety--pretty cool dude! ------------------ |

Yeah I thought both were inspiring THe Pearl Harbor dude: I remember hearing a story about him a LONG time ago (back in High School) where he went up to someone (I think the dude who converted him) and said, "I know Jesus forgave me but could you forgive me?"---takes real cajones to say something like that especially coming from Feudal Japan culture that was so heavy on honor and stick-with-it-til-you-die-----modern Japan is a complete 180 from the old Japan---but yeah I thought he was VERY inspiring! THe second dude--I think they should make a movie about him--like a spiritual successor to Schindler's List----it was also unprecedented of him to do that against the wishes of his government--back then the Emperor and the Government (basically one and the same) were the equivalent of God in their culture and to do something like that would have had a stigma similar to how we would look at someone who, in the tribulation, took 666---someone who is irreversibly fallen from grace--so this dude literally sacrificed it all. Long story short, it is cool to see that, when the world is going nuts, people still have the guts to do what is morally right even if it is socially unacceptable!! This is also why I love the movie Schindler's List hehe--have the DVD version of it ------------------ |
