one night about a month (more or less) ago i was watching tbn(Christian tv) then i went to wash the dishes when i came back my sister was in the room and on the tv was this prophet named peter popoff telling how he can prophesise and heal and people witnesing lots of stuff happening to them(it was very convincing ) so i call and a computer answers and i give my name and address and a prayer request,then about a week or two letter he sends me a letter and he claims to know stuff about me but the thing is the stuff he said could apply to many Christians . and in the mail was this plastic bag of water supposedly from this spring in russia where during the chernobyl nuclear disaster these Christians drank of it and weren't affected by the radiation and stuff(all this is the claim he made) and he told me to put the water beside my pillow when i sleep and that an angel would trouble it ,and he gave me more instructions and he said that i would get anywhere from $1700 to $17000 and that i have to send him $17 as an act of faith. so i really got suscpicious and mailed him back a letter of my own asking him if he really is a prophet to tell me more about me and my background and stuff,what i didn't tell you so far is that after i watched him on tv his show ended and i saw a commercial which you wouldn't see on Christian tv,then when i checked the channel it was fox26(a really secular channel) apparently when i was away to wash the dishes my sister came and changed the channel. so after about a week(if i am not wrong) he mails me again with this red rope to tie around my wrist and this iodine salt packet thing(ithink) and a cross,and he sent me more instructions and so called prophesies and i stopped replying and just today i found out that he sent me three more mails about the same thing.

so the reason i am telling you guys this is that there are many false prophets and decievers out there, i googled the name of this guy and apparently he was caught scamming in the 80's before.

lots of people use the name of our LORD and Savior JESUS CHRIST to lie to scam and to cheat, and after the people have been decieved they would have an impression about Christianity and Christians and it would be hard to reach out to people who have been fed lies like this.

it doesn't have to be peter popoff on secular tv it can be anyone at anytime anywhere everyone trusts JESUS even people who don't believe (some of them) when you approach them in the name of JESUS although they don't believe in him they will trust you so the enemy (satan) tries to use lots of people to decieve the world about us. not just false prophets but people who use our lords name to start wars violence ignorance and lots of sins too.

the thing to always remember is never ever ever to judge Christianity based on people who claim to be a Christian if you judge Christianity judge it by looking at CHRIST ,after all Christianity is the following of CHRIST.

i told the man that if he didn't reply me about my questions that i wouldn't take it easily that's one reason i made this post.

but anyways be careful what you learn make sure it agrees with the word of GOD.

and if you can warn other people about false prophets it's not something you should take easily.

Not to be terribly crude, but I've generally heard the term as a reference to the 'M' word. Not pleasant, but true. It doesn't help that his first name is also slang for a sexual organ.
