quote: You can dev on the PS3 with the Linux kit, plus Sony is trying to make it easier and easier to make stuff for it. Sony calls this 'Emergent Gameplay' where they turn everyday gamers into artists---look up Yellow Dog Linux on the PS3 I know it has built in programs to work with the Cell and code your own stuff, but I have been to chicken to play with it. Sony will drop the price tag eventually, but trust me bro it is worth it!!!! I am a multi-faceted gamer, owned all 3 of the next gen systems and the only one I kept was PS3---it has the games I like, standard HDD, DVD + Blu-Ray (which allows games to be ALOT bigger), standard HDMI plus an online service that is free and closely matches LIVE (being updated constantly so it comes closer and closer) and motion sensing---LOL don't mean to sound like I am preachin' for them or anything---but I have a lot of fun with it---actually I am very proud of myself---I downloaded the Ninja Gaiden Sigma demo (NGS is an uber-update-remake of NG and NG Black with High Def visuals, higher poly models and added levels, boss fights and weapons) and, after like 2.5 weeks of trying, I FINALLY beat the demo on Master Ninja difficulty--I obtained a Greater Ninja rank and placed 201st on the worldwide leaderboard (currently, only like 300 something people beat Master Ninja, it is tough!). But the machine does a lot, it is a digital swiss army knife and, if you follow what SOny is doing and intends to do, they plan to seriously reward us for buying it with great games and awesome free services like Home--and the occasional free game like Gran Turismo HD Concept--altho I am not a big GT fan a free game is a free game! ------------------ |

Never going to buy a PS3. Cool game, like battlefield, but it looks a little bit lacking. Meh. I'll never be excited 'bout a PS3... sorry. ------------------ |

I know I say I don't want a PS3. But then they're gonna start churning out RPGs... I'm gonna see the game mechanics and get enthralled. |

If the PS3 manages to be a successful platform, I will probably buy one in a few years. I'll wait till the price drops to ~$250, the hardware is more compact and takes less power (380 watts, currently!) and there are several hundred games available. The current form factor the PS3 reminds me of the XBOX when it came out: big, loud, clumsy and overpowered. Sony consoles do tend to age well (the platform, not the hardware). For example, the PS2 is seven years old, and they are still selling consoles and making games (and will be for some time), whereas the 5 year old XBOX is no longer manufactured and new games are no longer licensed. This has made me lose faith with Microsoft in the console market. ------------------ |

Good point, Steveth. Then again, the 360 is getting Blue Dragon (made by some of the key members of the Chrono Trigger team), and I don't think the PS3 is. Being as big of a fan of Chrono Trigger as I am, Blue Dragon looks to be every bit worth getting a 360 for. (And there's rumor of FFXIII going cross-platform.) The PS3 is nice hardware, but the (exclusive) games haven't impressed me yet (sorry, FFXIII doesn't have my support until I see it first hand); which isn't something I can say about the 360 and Wii. Honestly, the games I've seen on the PS3 look to be even less original than the ones on the 360. Ninja Gaiden is a big deal for what, the third time now? Don't get me wrong, I love the game (I finally bought it on the Xbox), but it's the same game with shinier graphics. The thing I find most laughable, however, is the Sixaxis. Nintendo says, "Hey guys, we're going to have motion sensing built into the controller!" Initially, everyone scoffs at Nintendo until they see it work. Sony hears this and rushes out to put together a motion sensing controller, and everyone immediately applauds it as revolutionary. Maybe I'm the only one that finds that funny. Don't get me wrong, I'll buy a PS3 in due time (probably at the same time Steveth does), but I'm not convinced that it's ushering in a new generation of gaming. Then, as has been said by Arch, the 360 has development potential. The PS3 does as well, but Microsoft is really pulling out the stops with its XNA support. And, as Mr. Langley would say, Torque games are easily ported to the 360 as well. I like Torque a lot, thank you, and the prospect of such rapid development on the 360 definitely appeals to me. Wait. I just realized that I'm invading a fan thread. How trollish of me. My apologies. I would like to get my hands on the Warhawk beta (the NBA demo in the stores is rather uninspiring). ------------------ |

I singed up for it. All this bashing of a PS3 though. +Free Online. (Unlike 360's monthly crap.) =360 is now about the same price sence they dropped their old model version. =or+ I've seen for myself and heard many examples of how the 360 looks shoddy graphix wise compaired to the PS3. As for the Wii, it's not even credibal to me anymore. I'm sick of Nintendos gimmics. Dumb little disks, and now the magic fairy wand. I can do without thanks. I was a fan way back, but they are killing me with their side show gimmic crud. Then to get all the controlers I need to play all the games I want with my family on it I'll pay $300+ just there. So that puts the Wii up to $500 at least, so whop-dee-doo to it. ------------------ |

Hey! With my previous post---the RPG by the Shin Megami Tensei dude and Folklore are one and the same *smacks self on forehead*----FF13 prolly won't go multiplatform---plus look at FF VS 13 as well---from the Kingdom Hearts team --Resistance is good, I highly reccomend it, MotorStorm isn't bad---I think Resistance owns it but I seem to be the only one on the net who thinks so (everyone thinks MotorStorm is the best thing since sliced bread). Go to IGN or GameSpot and look at the coverage for Sony's Gamer's Day----LOTs of good games coming out---including quite a few (such as Uncharted: Drake's Fortune) that are impossible to do on the 360 (the demo to Uncharted alone takes up more space than can possibly fit on a DVD)---plus the dev potential for PS3 will only grow with time---the 360 wasn't the way it was dev wise at launch hehe! With Ninja Gaiden--I played a lot of the original and Black--and Sigma is different--not just shiner graphics--new levels, badguys, bossfights, features and weapons----like one I know of is that, in the Hayabusa village, you actually have to fight through the burning temple now--it isn't a FMV anymore---plus you actually have to fight that weird fiend knight dude there too. With motion sensing---I don't think people dogged Nintendo then praised Sony---if anything I think Sony did it because they initially couldn't do rumble because of Microsoft--a company sued MS and Sony for the rumble---MS bought the company out and refused to drop the suit against Sony---so Sony did it as kind of a thumbing of the nose to MS---although that company and Sony have since settled and a rumbling sixaxis is supposedly not far off---honestly? I owned both the PS3 and a Wii and liked the PS3's motion sensing much better---because it is combined into a traditional controller so it enhances existing game design ideals rather than throwing the baby out with the bath water---I would have appreciated Nintendo's better had they A) included the classic controller with the system and B) took IGN's idea that the classic controller would be a shell for the remote to slide into so you get basically the sixaxis---and IGN posted that idea like 9 months before Nintendo showed the classic controller off so it wouldn't have been hard--IGN did the work for them! But yeah LOL---just noticed that John Woo's Stranglehold Collector's Edition for the PS3 will include his film Hard Boiled (prequel to the game or sequel or something like that---both star Chow Yun Fat) in HD with both Cantonese and English voice versions all on the same Blu-Ray disc---I am actually very tempted by that (I love anything that does more than one function--I call it the Swiss Army Knife approach)--plus IGN said the game plays pretty good so yeah hehe! ------------------ |

I watch G4tv or go to G4tv.com for most of my game news. I get a laugh out of X-Play anyways. I do have a down side to the PS3 though, it cost me an extra $100 than the other guys, but I haven't been let down with the systom at all. ------------------ |
zookey Member Posts: 1902 From: Great Falls, Montana, USA Registered: 04-28-2002 |
LOL yep---I wish I had G4tv----only have basic cable--they should cover the gamers day tho too----there was tons of announcements so they should have at least a little blurb on it. ------------------ |
