Hi last time i started a topic on the "general discussions" forum and the title was "FEAR or RESPECT GOD??? " and i got lots of positive reponses and it really helped me understand what we mean when we say "fear god",BUT as i was reading some of your replies a new question arose in my mind ,some of the replies i got were something like we should fear god in order not to get into hell[or to get into heaven],and my question is if we fear god or we do good things for the sake of not going to hell or to get into heaven would that really get us into heaven, shouldn't we fear god out of the deep fatherly love and respect we feel towards him?
lots of references in the bible tell us not to sin or disgrace god because then we would go to hell shouldn't they be saying don't sin because it's wrong?

ps: in my question above when i say why did the bible say"don't sin because you'll go to hell" i don't mean to criticize, undermine or question the integrity and truth fullness of the bible i try to follow every word of the bible ,i asked this question because i wanted to understand the true meanings of certain references of the bible.

There is only one sin that will warrent non-entry to Heaven.

Not believing that Jesus was who he said he was (Son of God) and did what he said he did (Died for our sins, paid the penalty, and rose again).

Catholics will likely disagree.
And I'm betting Orthodox will disagree.
A few of the Protestant Denominations might disagree.

That, however, is the truth. If necessary (and once I can get my Internet up where I don't have to use laptop battery power) I can bring in the exact scriptural references. The references indicating other potential sins which might result in non-entry are either not referring to salvation but rather blessings or lack thereof (aka earthly cursing/punishment) on earth or in heaven or they are not referring to those who have already been saved.

Like netcog said we are saved by beleiving in Jesus and if we would not fear God then we would ignore what God says in the Bible and we would ignore the saving blood of Jesus Christ. It is God's grace that He has forgiven us.

Now I don't want to sin anymore, because I have been forgiven.

Joh 17:26 And I have declared unto them thy name, and will declare it: that the love wherewith thou hast loved me may be in them, and I in them.

"want" might not be the best word. As Christians we will be tempted (same way as nonbelievers) until the return of Jesus. The difference is that a Cristian has the power to resist the temptation.

I agree with the rest of your post though

Amen. Jesus gives freedom.
And I would like to add that it's the truth found in the Bible that makes free (Joh 8:32).
