Using our abilities as engineers and computer scientists, how can we advance the cause of Christ in our world? I have been talking to some of my friends about this, and we are all in different fields. One of my friends is in Law School and obviously this country needs Christian Lawyers who will represent truth. Some of my other friends are in the medical field and they have a chance to demonstrate compassion to the people around them. I am looking for ideas as to how Christian Coders can impact the world for Christ with what they do.

One thing I am studying in school is knowledge management. Obviously technology plays a huge role in turning data into knowledge. A bulletin board like this is a venue for spreading the knowledge of Christ and providing a means for Christain fellowship. I believe when Christains get together and when God blesses, great things happen. Could we as Christian computer people use our professions and contribute to Christ's work?

I would love to hear if there are projects in this direction that any of you are a part of or have heard of that I could join. I would also love to hear ideas any of you might have with regard to practical ways you can impact the world for Christ with computers.

By the way I am new to this site and it is really exciting seeing how CCN is working on doing exactly what I have been talking about!

Live strong for Him!

God uses us in whatever situation we are in. He can use our talents, skills and gifts specifically for His work, but He can ALWAYS use US. If you are in a non-christian workplace, then that is your neighbourhood and your work colleagues are your neighbours.

Dont get me wrong though, its good to find ways of using our skills for God - so all the best

Welcome to CCN wlfmachine! Knowledge Management sounds like a userful course for sure.

Indeed! Now if I've learned anything, then I have learned that over the years for sure!

Yes, I think Christianity really needs Christians to spread the word via Internet and games. Internet seems to be the biggest battle ground between good and evil today because it reaches so many people and every one can contribute. And since many people have their own twisted moral views, the line which separates good from evil has gone twisted. And this is something we Christians can and I think should try to straighten by telling the truth of our God trough our work.

Personally I'm all for Christian gaming today and have been working on a Bible based online adventure game for some time now. I see it as a great opportunity to glorify our God in the way I know best.

You are welcome to join the project when I have a site link to post because I still need to work on it before I can post the link.

And what comes to ideas on practical ways, HanClinto has written this doc about Christian game which you might want to check out:
http://www.includingjudas.com/christiangame.html

I'm looking forward to read more about practical ways too.

I think the idea of an internet evangelism day is pretty exciting. Especially encouraging Churches to update their websites and make them people friendly. Thanks for that link Nomad.

Wouldn't it be exciting if instead of constantly getting pop up adds for online dating sites and different stuff like that, we were constantly bombarded with evangelistic messages and encouragements?

Does anyone know of a network of church websites? Is there a site out there that ties a lot of church websites together? I found a site called www.churchsearch.com that kinda was like this, only it was only for Texas.

Let the praise go to Him!

Are your friends Christians? I know this is off the original intent of your post, but have you considered how their professions (law and medical) are in need of christian representation online? That's what I think is great about christiancoders.com. Here's a place that Christians with an interest or coders that are looking for something different can come and hang out a bit.

People are online..looking..search..for info all the time. Maybe its you and your friends who will make an 'oasis' online for christian law and health. Providing resources, advice, and encouragement, support for those looking for a Christian perspect.

Here's what for you should to do:
1. Secure the following domain names
www.christianlawweb.com
www.christianhealthweb.com
www.christianmedweb.com
(yes, these are available..no one else take them!)
2. Get your friends involved
3. Determine what your site should have
3. Find resources to use, coders , others interested

I think this would provide a good thesis in knowlege management for you as well.

I was recently looking for a Christain site for advice on loosing a few pounds, getting in shape. Maybe a place to track my meal plans/excercise. I could have used www.christianhealthweb.com ! Of course, Christian health could also include 'spiritual health' as well.

Let me know if you decide to do it!

Those are great ideas, just what I am looking for. The guys I was speaking of are Christians from my church, and I am in the process of creating online space for our group. We are setting up a forum where we'll be talking through a good book ("How now shall we live" I'll tell you more about it when I have made some progress reading). We'd also like to have a system of keeping track of each others outreach opportunities so we can pray, encourage, and get involved with each others works.

Once this work is moving I will be able to mirror the site at the different URLs you described, and link them to our group page. So those who are medically enclined can have their own forum that they can promote among their peers at work and school. And there will be one for the lawyers too. Pretty exciting stuff, coolj you have my mind running now!
