[Book is available for free (after email registration) from here : http://www.scienceofgettingrich.net/ - send me a PM if you want me to email you a copy, they encourage distribution of the book] Has anyone read this book? I read it on the bus today and I must admit I'm not quite sure what to make of it. The message seems to be that by thinking about what you want you can get it, because it effects the universe around you to help create what you want.
quote: Part of the book revolves around God, and how He wants us to be rich so that we may enjoy what He has created, and that He wants us to make the most of ourselves.
quote: It almost seems as if the book is saying that we can get God to create what we want, as God is the one substance and that is what our thoughts can manipulate. Some of the book I agree with, and some I don't. It's certainly made me think about my faith quite deeply, so I definately benefitted from reading it. I'd love to hear other people's opinions on this. ------------------ |

God, the one substance, is trying to live and do and enjoy things though humanity. He is saying "I want hands to build wonderful structures" lol tower of babel |

i haven't read that book, so maybe my perception and comments will be off, but a common flaw with many things today, especially things that preach properity for prosperities sake (rather than having more resources to bless more people and serve the gospel etc) is this it focuses around OUR wants, not God's wants.. God says seek first the kingdom of God and all these things (that we may need or want) shall be added unto us. However in such a thing we seek first these things, and we try to use/manipulate God as our servant in achieving them. also the things/riches we want often have to do with our "selfish ambitions" which the bible warns us against, when as christians we are to die to this world, take up our cross, and say NOT OUR WILL BE DONE , BUT YOURS be done.. of course prosperity is not wrong, and neither is money, but the lust of money is a sin that is warned against, as is greed, and the desire for the "good things of this world" Karl ------------------ |

in a way it is true. Remember the part in the bible when Christ moved the tree and the apostil asked how he did it. Just like the part about walking on water. lol For instance my brother was playing a raffle. and he said he will win, and 10 seconds before they said who won he was saying that he won so confidently and loud that it was odd. But no one has enough faith to move a tree or walk on water, because when they do they will be in disbelief and if disbelief is shown then they do not believe. I think you would need to have more morals than a monk lol so I would say it is kind of impossible.

You know Christian prosperity messages are nice but they are also from the devil in alot of ways. Jesus taught us to seek the kingdom of God and all these things will be added Matthew 6:33 So if we are to seek the kingdom of God first what are we all running around searching for riches. Are prayers are full of give me, give me, give me! In James 5:3 James 4:3 We should not go around seeking to be rich, Jesus never ever taught this James 1:9-10 Let the brother in humble circumstances glory in his elevation James 1:15 Ok the sciptures says it all, if you are gonna waste all that time seeking money and searching for riches be aware of what follows- and be aware you will loose your life. Joshua 1:8 This book of the law (the bible) shall not depart from your mouth , but you shall meditate on it day and night, that you may observe and do according to all that is writtenin it- For then you shall make your way prosperous and you shall deal wisely and have good success- So there you go that is the key: |

Well said, and welcome to CCN! First off this post isn't directed to anyone here, just an observation and some rambling on my part. I'd just like to say that we live in an age when a distorted gospel is being taught as truth, and the main focus of it is money, properity, and health. Things like, "God want's everyone rich",... "If you aren't rich then it's cause you haven't claimed it!" or "if you're sick then you have some hidden sin", or in extreme cases "you aren't rich because you aren't really saved" etc... We should focus our lives on knowing Christ more, and getting closer to Him, and not on getting all that we can. If we love the Lord then we will obey Him, and our eyes will turn from ourselves and we will see that there are people that are lost and stumbling in the dark, captives held in chains that need to be set free. Even if we are trying to make money for a ministry we should still continue doing all that we can with what we currently have. And God will see that we are faithful in this and give us more for this purpose. This world (cosmos\society) and all the material riches are only temporary, but the spiritual riches that the Lord promises those whom love Him are eternal, and much better anyway. ------------------ |

Thanks for the replies. My old English teacher had this on his wall - "It's not the lies that are most dangerous, but the half truths". I think that is particularly evident in the case of this book. Reading through it is seems reasonable, but on closer inspection it is more dangerous. People are replacing the Bible with this book, and that is not a good thing. However, the book does have some good points. Positive thinking is very important, and although you can't get anything just by thinking about it, thinking positively makes it much easier to achieve. It also promotes the abundance mentality, something that I'm fond of. Because the book does not distort everything, and the conclusions it draws seem logical, it is more pallatable. For example, nobody would argue that God wants us to be happy. The book simply implies that you need to be rich to be happy. The hardest question for me is - "Is it right to be rich?" ------------------ |

Yeah that can be a tough question. Personally I think that it is not right to be rich or right to be poor. But neither is it wrong to be rich or wrong to be poor. I think it's A-Moral. Neither right or wrong. It depends on where the rich or poor persons heart is, and if they are submitted to God's will or not. I don't think actually having money has anything to do with being right or wrong. However, I do think that making earthly riches our main priority is wrong indeed. And Christians writing books about getting rich... I just don't see how it can be justified. It would be interesting to see the Joel Osteen's and the Creflo Dollar's go out and try to sale their books to the poor, hungry, and tormented people in the less fortunate locations on this planet. I mean if what they teach is the truth then it shouldn't just be for our culture, it should be for everyone on the planet ya know. K, I'll stop rambling on that On a personal note, it was once my lifes goal to be rich, and to get all that I could. But after falling on my face a few times, and feeling guilty about my motives the whole time, and even seeing some awesome visions from the Lord. I couldn't help but turn my lifes goal to bringing glory to the name of Jesus Christ, and to reaching the lost. I am very aware that it takes finances to get the Gospel out. And if it's in God's plan for me to do this through being rich, then so be it. If it's in God's plan for me to do this through being poor then so be it. If it's in God's plan for me to do this by being in the average range and just do the small everyday tasks to bring Him glory then so be it. And I really really mean that too. Riches just don't seem too appealing to me anymore. I'm more concerned with people, and where they'll spend eternity. ------------------ |

I'm not too impressed. To be honest, there's no get rich guaruntees. God doesn't want all of us to be rich. He wants all of us to believe in him. This book is one of hundereds of get rich books out there. OK, it looks like it may be one of the weirder ones (haven't read it), but it's still not much different. IMHO, just manage your money well, and let God decide your wealth. Be satisfied with what you have. And to be honest - pursue God's goals. Focus on spreading the gospel, raising a family, and other more important stuff. Don't worry about money, it's only paper. Don't fall for this whole materialistic worldview - it's not satisfying, you will never have enough. CobraA1's you-won't-get-rich-but-you-won't-be-in-debt-to-your-eyeballs advice: Avoid using credit cards. Seriously. Maybe keep one around and use a small yearly or monthly purchase to keep it active and keep your credit good - and maybe for internet purchases, but that's it. And never, ever only pay the minimum - you will never, ever pay it off that way, as you're only paying the interest (which the credit card companies don't mind, because interest == profit for them). Always pay off the whole thing at once if possible. Remember: When you are using a credit card, you are using money you do not really have! You're essentially taking out a loan every time you use it. Too many people act like it's free money when it's not . You do have to pay it back. It is much, much, much better to save money ahead of time and wait until you have enough to pay for the item. Then you know you have the money, and don't have to worry about interest. When you move into a new home and get a new job, create a budget. Go through the numbers and determine what your average income and expenses are. If expenses are larger than income, it's time to find a new job or a new home. Never spend more than what you have allocated for spending money. If it's a limited time offer, suck in that "I must have it!" feeling and go on without it - chances are, you really didn't need it anyways. If it's a big item, spend some time thinking about the benefits and drawbacks of having it. If it's not really beneficial, don't get it. If it's really beneficial, spend at least a week or a month more thinking about it, then start saving. Vacations and trips should be planned ahead of time - way ahead of time. You should already have the money you need by the time you go. Rule #1 about prices: You get what you pay for. My laptop had a lot of features - but it was unreliable and had a very short battery life. In the end it wasn't worth what I had put into it. If you follow my advice, I can't guaruntee anything. I can't even guaruntee it will work, but it's much, much better than what you'll get in any "get rich quick" book.

quote: Quite the contrary, I've found that God hates to be thought of as a puppet - he's got a very good habit of answering prayers in unexpected ways, and his will is always done, not ours. ------------------ Switch Mayhem now available! Get it here |
