Below is an excerpt from an article on Toxic Faith (whole article)

Makes a pretty good self-test

B. 21 erroneous beliefs that can fuel toxic faith (various forms and degrees of unhealthy Christianity)

1. Security and significance with God depend on my behavior
2. When tragedy strikes, true believers should have a real peace about it
3. If you had real faith, God would heal you or the one you are praying for
4. All ministers are men and women of God and can be trusted
5. Material blessings are a sign of spiritual strength
6. The more money you give to God, the more money he will give to you
7. I can work my way to heaven
8. Problems in your life result from some particular sin
9. I must not stop meetings other's needs
10. I must always submit to authority
11. God only uses spiritual giants
12. Having true faith means waiting for God to help me and doing nothing until he does
13. If it's not in the Bible, it isn't relevant (all truth is in the Bible)
14. God will find me a perfect mate
15. Everything that happens to me is good
16. A strong faith will protect me from problems and pain
17. God hates sinners, is angry with me, and wants to punish me
18. Christ was merely a great teacher
19. God is too big to care about me
20. More than anything else, God wants me to be happy (free from pain)
21. You can become God

While it's true the number 21 is well off, there's a lot of very messed up people in this world... have you visited London?

hey Klumsy
I saw that they were bad things without the needfor checking out the article but
the last one just goes beyond the pale don't you think?
I mean - it's almost to the point of "ridiculous"

D-SIPL
I am very sorry to have to confirm your insinuation about LONDON.
I work there.

Over the past 3 years, the number of crimes committed where firearms were DISCHARGED
has risen exponentially.
LONDON has worse crime than New York.
When (Sir) Rudolph GUILIANO visited our prime minister Tony Blair last week he told him that
LONDON's POLICE FORCE needed to come UP to NYPD's level to have any hope of sorting LONDON's crime
and currently our London Police numbers are HALF of NYPD's strength (42000 police) which GUILANO (with Bill CLINTON's massive support) increased to that level
over the last few years
Unfortunately - too many MORE innocent people will have to be killed before anybody takes notice of GUILIANO's advice!

Not that I feel strongly about it or anything........is that what you thought ?

while, 21 is well off and seems more off than the rest..
21 is something entrenched in every person to a point, and in many areas of our modern culture, from new age , to themes in many movies..
often it may not be so overt,
but the desire of the sinful heart, is to be in control of ourselves, to be completely autonomous, to have the role of God in our lives... many believe that being a god, or God, is jsut the next step in our human development/evotion/ self awareness/ enlightenment...
tune into that inner devine being that you are sort of thing..

no matter the scale or the language.. it is just a reflection of the animosity that man has towards God, and the rebellion in our hearts, I think if anybody is fully honest, sometime currently or in our past ,we have desire to replace God's role in ourlive with ourself..
SELF is IDOL numero uno these days... modern people don't sacrifice to this statue or that statue , or an idol named baal or whatever.. who we worship is often very easy to guess.. its ourselves..

anyway,
With the enabling of the holy spirit and submission to Christ, we can get things back in the right order and have liberty, be freed from the bondages of living under our own control, which is quite a heavy burden, and bathe in the freedom God has given us.. being able to trust Him, that he has our best intentions for He loves us with a passion, and has good plans and purposes for us, and we can trust Him with our lives...

anyhow

God Bless
