Babel-ution is my first MMORPG idea(No development yet). I put a lot of the info I came up with on HanClinto's Wiki. The URL for it is:

Feel free to post any comments or suggestions here.

I looked at it, and it looks pretty innovative.

Sounds interesting. If you haven't done much 3D work, I'd start off with a few smaller projects first, eventually working up to this one.

About the name...at first I thought it was gonna be some weird, adolescent male dating game trying to hook up with chicks in the Garden of Eden...which of course means naked. I'm not sure the name fits, but that's just my take on it.

I really like way the players transform/mutate as they do bad things, pretty cool idea!

Thanks for the input.

You are probably right about doing some smaller projects first as so far my only experience with 3D is converting some tutorials(which probably gave me more C# to VB.NET conversion experience than experience with the engine) and making a few models which had the instructions written out already. I was planning before to do more study at the very least as I knew this project was way over my skill level.

The name I am not sure how you got that interpretation but I am open to suggestions. I don't get out much.

Well, I saw "Babe lution" and "babe" is usually a term used for describing a woman that is good looking. I wasn't sure about the "lution" part but words like "revolution" and "evolution" seemed to surface. I'm not saying it's a bad title just that I wasn't sure how to pronounce it and it gave me some strange ideas of what the game could be about as my first impression of the name.

Later I will start puting a hyphens between the "l" and the "u" so it would be "Babel-ution" to emphasize the proper pronunciation. Babel referring to the Tower of Babel. And I was going for the evolution meaning of the suffix more than revolution. Thanks for pointing this out. Don't want people getting the wrong idea.

Christo, You can also spell it "Babyl"

Sometimes, a good way to work your way up to a tough project is to break it down into smaller ones. You might consider making a 2d game (as has already been suggested) with part of the Babelution theme in it. That way, you can work on characters and abilities and stuff, and you'll have lots of story and research already done when you start working on Babelution. Lots of mechanics are transferrable from a 2d game to a 3d game. I would think that all the programming aside from the battle engine and movement would be transferrable.

Also, if you use 3d models to create the assets for your 2d game, those models will be available for your 3d MMORPG with a little tweaking. (Just make sure you own the legal rights to the model)

I know how it can sting when you have a big dream and knowledgable people say "start smaller." But God lots of times gives us a big dream so we're largely motivated, and He uses that motivation to bring us through character-changing events in our life. So don't give up on the big dream, but just cut it into littler parts (like a 2d game) that will bring you success and bolster your hope along the way.

Never knew it could be spelled that way though I noticed it has a similar problem. It could be pronounced "Baby lution" so it would sound like a game about babies. This would be better than the other mispronunciation but I think I will keep the hyphen idea.I may still use "Babylution" for one of the smaller games you suggested.

Like the idea of using 3D models to get 2D assets, I have actually thought of it before but never got around to using it. And to start I think I may try to make my own models since I have practically no budget.

As far as the sting goes I have been stung plenty of times already. And I am not giving up, it just means I have a big plan on the back burner and I need to get ready for it.

In any case it will be a long time before my main idea will be implemented and this was mostly to get the idea out on the table so some problems I might have missed could be spotted and fixed early and also to see if this type of game would be accepted.

christo-u should do with 3d on this, not waste time on 2d, it will be hard to get things right in 2d & spend too much time tryng to. do it in parts like others say, but a good split is with teh animalsparts. have others help with this and find low poly 3d base model for ur player. let others help u, they will have fun with the diffent parts & then u can focus on code and game world.

I do want to get into 3D. Still need to decide what engine to use(I only put irrlicht on the wiki because it is the one I was trying to learn first) . May start another thread for this later since it seems off-topic for this section of the forums.

I was thinking about just using a much shorter storyline and fewer mechanics and thus create a smaller 3D game(maybe "Baby lution").Maybe while keeping it somewhat upwards convert-able like there may be fewer parts or skills related to them but to upgrade it is just a matter of adding more to the list or sub-lists. The 2D comment just distracted me a little bit. Thanks for reminding me that part of my original purpose here was to learn 3D.

As far as the models go I would be happy to have have others help me once I get something going(wont really know all that I need until then) and I get some more studying done so I am not left at a loss as to what to do with the models once I get them(this may all take a while).

And it might help me a little if I got a less feedback for a little while since I am spending too much time answering them. think this one took me over an hour to write because I kept revising it.
