Here is a picture of a game I am currently working on. It's just a hallway right now.

Any ideas on maps, story line, setting, game play, etc. would be appreciated. The story is set in the future, I just don't know what it is yet.

Welcome to CCN Manged!
That shot reminds me of Tremulous (www.tremulous.net). The shot makes me think of a space station. Maybe the player needs to defend it? Or perhaps he could attack it.

Welcome!

Looks great!
Well, from the just glancing at the screen the game is prolly either going to be set in space, or in some type of industrial warehouse or something.
Kinda hard to just come up with a story just like that. I personally think games based in space are sort of overrated but a lot of people like them. So, lets just say it's on earth in a warehouse where a group of mad scientists are building robots that will then build and pilot a space craft that will then shoot missiles towards the earth after the scientists have all escaped to mars.

ok, i dont really like that idea... i was just typing the first thing that came to mind.

A space station is a good idea! I like the defence idea too! I got my inspiration partly from Tremulous. Thanks

Nice to see a fellow Mac owner (noticed your site is a .mac one hehe!!!)---well, what was your inspiration in making this? That is a good place to start to figure out what you want to do--also, what parts of it did you actually do--did you model that?

Yup I modeled it and made the textures, everything you see I made (except the compass down at the bottom of the screen). Besides Tremulous and other games like it, I don't really have an inspiration besides to make a game. The style of dirty cement and scratched metal I picked up a while back after I got more skilled at making those kinds of textures.

What modeling program are you planning on using? Do you have a game engine in mind to make a game?

wow! that is amazing! it reminds me of randall's secret lab in monster's inc. it sort of also looks like the sewer level in crash bandicoot 2. that split in the middle makes it look like a dock or an airlock for something if you changed it around a bit. or it could be some secret underground chamber, or a maintenance hallway (not very exciting).

One thing that might be interesting (which might not amount to more than just a thinking exercise) is to list all the ideas you think it should be (ie Space Station, Underground) and see if you can come up with a cool idea that isn't on the 'usual suspects' list---that would help you define something for your overreaching narritive that will help you seperate yourself from the pack---again it may end up being cooler to keep it in outer space or underground but at least it opens you up to thinking outside the box and you may end up with ideas that can added uniqueness!

boogie, well if you look at it as the floor as the wall, then it looks like an elevator.

Some good stuff there. Any ideas for genre's? The only kind of RPG, that seem suitable would be 3rd person "real-time" RPG (could still be turn-based).

I could see a real-time tactics, it would be quite fun actually, it would need ALOT of work on AI though.

The thing near the top looks like that might be a futuristic door.

Action would be easy to see, but it would seem like a waste of design to have it be pure action (run into a horde of thousands of enemies).

I'm also currently setting a game idea back to the back bumper in order to work on one in my own universe. Have you defined the universe yet? Perhaps defining the universe first (writing out LOTS of random things, foods, characteristics, government, weapons, droids (if you have them), ext. Anything that defines it. Also writing a few stories about it will help you get an idea which is suitable. (I wanted to do an RPG, but the universe wouldn't let me )

Personally of my favorite of the above is a trans-reality underground bunker with real-time tactics/3rd/1st Person shooter. By trans-reality, you're in an underground bunker, but the scientist within have triggered a reality setting on the (hologram if you will) otherwise fake minion generator to slow (hopefully for them, stop you.) you down so you don't take out their evil plan (or their master's evil plan) by triggering thousands of nuclear missiles towards Earth which would additionally wipe out all powergenerators there cancelling thousands of years of work, and putting the scientists thousands of years ahead.

An FPS was what I was thinking but like you said it needs more to it besides just shooting or else it's a waist.

That's an interesting story, but personaly I'm starting to lean towards a space map. At least for this one (I can always add ground/underground maps later). The trans-reality idea is cool.
