I have an Idea for a Game: A Christian RPG emulating The Final Fantasy Series. I haven't thought of a Storyline..yet,but the final enemy will be Lucifer. The battle system would be like FF's...complete random battles with monsters. Cool Huh!? If you like the Idea Maybe in the future you can Make one. Since I don't Contribute much around here,I've decided to Become the 'Idea Man' of CCN. Because I've Got Tons of Great Game Ideas. ------------------ [This message has been edited by super angel steve (edited August 27, 2007).] [This message has been edited by super angel steve (edited August 27, 2007).] [This message has been edited by super angel steve (edited August 27, 2007).] [This message has been edited by super angel steve (edited August 27, 2007).] |

Hey Steve, sounds interesting. Part of the trouble with game ideas is that they are a dime a dozen. I think the hardest part about being a game designer is not coming up with the basic concept, but rather making the game idea to be internally consistent and implement-able. It's often quite easy to write down a bunch of ideas, but the game isn't able to be created as the idea is written. Creating a consistent game design takes a fair bit of work, and is one of the most important aspects of game development. In case you're interested in reading old threads on this subject, there's an old one that we talked about in the "Ideas vs. Execution" thread here: Thanks for sharing your game ideas! In Christ, |

Very interesting idea... would be intrigued on further developments you add to it. To mirror what Clint said... one of my most influential game design teachers often said that "Game ideas are completely worthless". He said this because as Clint says they are a dime a dozen. He worked in the industry as a Game Designer (coincidentally for Dynamix) and often developed Design docs, did research to get history aspects, solid, etc. What he taught was that game ideas in and of themselves aren't even worth a single cent... it's work you produce off of that idea. This work can be documenting design elements of the game, researching aspects of your game and documenting that, developing concept art, coding prototypes, etc. The real value behind an idea is where you take it. That said don't take this the wrong way, sounds like an interesting idea. Now I'd suggest taking the next step and think of a storyline, think of how it could be alike or dis-alike other games (such as Final Fantasy), think of gameplay elements, etc... ------------------ |

don't mean to discourage you, but I have to agree with my colleagues (yeah, that's right. I'm calling you colleagues). Everybody is an idea man, experience is far more important. I can't tell you how many "killer" games I've been dreaming of. But for now, I'm concerning myself with slowly climbing the ladder. A card game. a small rpg. maybe even a fighting game. Eventually, a large MasterOfOrion-meets-StarControl2-meets-Freelancer-meets-UberArchAngelGoodness. Keep up with the ideas, elaborate on them and refine them, but most importantly, get your hands dirty in development. ------------------ |
