Hey, I was wondering what music making tools every one uses?

I am only able to create something using some sample tool, like fruity loops. Because I dont even know how to play piano. I've also tried some old "trackers"?, those we're quite difficult to use.

So how do you make your music using PC? (or perhaps some game console music creation software, there's some of those too)

Edit: Sorry I forgot to mention that it should also be free.

I personally like trackers, but I also play the piano.

What kind of music experience do you have? Do you read music? Do you play another instrument?

I can think of four different music writing interfaces.

1. Trackers
My personal favorite is MadTracker.

2. Music Notation
Try Rosegarden.

3. Piano Roll
Try Midi Mountain.

4. Perform and Mix
Try Wired.

God Bless!

I use the Free and Open Source Hydrogen drum machine when I need a beat. www.hydrogen-music.org available for Linux and, I think, Mac OS X.

I sign at church (haha). Only "real" music experience I have is with those loop/sample programs.

Thanks for the links!

Hey,
I have been trying to learn tracking with MadTracker now and after some time spent with the tutorials I may have figured the system now. But I don't know how to actually play piano so Im asking if any one knows best place to get started? Some online lessons for people who dont know the difference between mol and dul?

Thanks.

They have to be free?

I don't use any free software... sorry. I use Ableton Live 6, and had to pay more than a few dollars for it.

For loop/sample programs, there are free versions of Sony's ACID loop-based DAW, and there's also a non-commercial free version of Kristal Audio Engine. I started out on simply loops and samples too. still use some samples in songs.
