Right now I'm writing my story for my game. Along side that, i'm learning C++. It's obviously going to be a while before i can actually start working on my game. I want to make a 3D game because 2D just wont cut it. I don't know how to do 3D modeling either though. So, My idea is to make the same game in 2D. It may or may not be an actual working game.. Just mostly I will be making 2D sprites to get an idea of how i want my characters and levels to look like. and then if i have to i can "hire" someone to do the modeling for me and they'll have something to look at. So basically, my 2D version will be the prototype, and i was just wondering if anyone else has any prototypes of games that they'd like to share! ------------------ |

http://www.3rddaystudios.com/downloads/JSuperSki.zip It's a "downhill" skiing prototype I put together in Blitz3D some time ago... the basic point of it is to steer clear of the obstacles that you can't see until the words pop-up telling you where they'll be... I thought it was a pretty fun idea, haven't had time to play around with it recently though. (If you spin out, then hold up, and the right\left direction you need to press until you can see Jay again, if not then he'll keep going further and further from the camera... lol.. poor Jay... ------------------ |

ahh! that was pretty neat brandon! it reminds me of .. what was it called? skifree? you just need to add other skiers and snowboarders and dogs to get in the way.. and then when you cross the finish line, a yeti that comes and eats you.

no problem. i remember when my cousin showed me skifree. then prolly a few years later i remembered it and looked for it online. funny how you remember things like that. i wish the source code was available, but microsoft owns it now. anyways, i think you should finish that. ------------------ |

I don't have any 2D mockup, so far I have been using 2D only for User Interfaces. I really don't think 3D is much of big deal unless you plan to build the game engine or the rendering pipeline by yourself. As for finding 3D art assets that is a real problem but you have it for 2D as well. You can find some hold placers until you come up with a better solution and in the mean time work on the game logic. If I were you I'd probably go for an easy fix that will allow a fast game build and then start over at a deeper level. Calin |

Cool ^^ you can't go wrong with that. Are you sticking with 2D? If so, there are sprites already created that you can use... many of them are ripped from the actual games themselves (although I'm not sure how legal that is...)
