Well well well.. another new guy! welcome to CCN, pelase enjoy your never-ending flight, without peanuts! Seriously, welcome to CCN, I suggest PMing LAVA or CPUfreak (he's got some numbers at the end... i forget what they are...) or maybe even Crazyishone... I'm not the best programmer, or teacher. FIrst off: What are you more serious about? Game MAKING (I.E. Design) or programming (I.E. C++, java, Blitzbasic, Python, Ruby) or both? In all three: DUMP GAME-MAKER... VERY little felxibility, VERY little amusment fromthose games, VERY nice try-ish thing, but nothing beats the original code (that last part, I was talking ot the makers of game maker...) Learn a basic languae, do you have Game Programming for Teens? thats the book I started with, and its very good, but be sure to ditch the lessons after your done and just experiment the heck out of your code! I can be (and is) frusterating at times, but in the end i belive its worht it! (I belive, I only got so far before my fat lazy butt dragged me down... I'm working on that... coding, not my butt.. its not fat, that was an exxacedration, and I'm not going on any sort of weight loss programn, I'm only 120... (pounds, not years old, that is) ------------------

Hah! RM You're 30 pounds heavier than me and I'm on a Weight Loss Program. On Topic, personal mentor, not really I'm kind of busy. But I'd be willing to help here, I am one of the more common here. Blitz is also my best language. (And only) ------------------ |

I can be doing nothing but thinking about Bible Dave, or some other random thing and suddenly I discover I'm extremeley hungry. ------------------ |

well, we're all here to help with any problems, each of us with our own strengths. if you have an issue, post it up here and chances are atleast on of us can help. I know there a couple gamemaker users out here (Cheese, Cobra, myself, etc). really, the best way to learn to make games is to just make them. (225 lbs. booyah. you children have nothing on me) ------------------ |

fatto... Actually the competition was the lowest! :Looks Smug: but if its weight, well its not really fair. you're like 8 yrs older. On topic: I doubt a PERSONAL mentor will work out, but we'll all help eachother. ------------------ |

Guys, being that heavy doesn't always indicate fat. Though most of us could be used to swat flies, there is a thing called extra muscle mass. Now, arch, tell us more about this phenomenon! Well, don't. I kid. ------------------ |

hey RM, don't be trashing gamemaker. it's a pretty good program for starting out. it's always good to start out with something easy and small. besides, you use Blitz, which is only the next step up from non-coding engines. ------------------ |

[QUOTE. it's a pretty good program for starting out. it's always good to start out with something easy and small. [/B][/QUOTE] Anyone have a list of good projects for newbies. Every once and while when I look at a new library I try to think of something useful to create, and I've been looking at fulltick (FLTK) and trying to think of something appropriate for a beggining GUI based app. |

if you have managed to figure out Java (even just basics) i HIGHLY suggest checking out the Golden T Game Engine (GTGE). its extremely easy to make basic games. and once you're pro at that you can build your own framework on top of it (like i did) and make some crazy-advanced games. |
