Some of you may remember a rant that I wrote a little while ago that talked about the values of ideas vs. the value of implementation. Anyways, I was searching on Garage Games for a post about some free game graphics, and when searching the guy's blog, I found a fabulous directory for all of his posts, essays, resources, etc. Check it out here. Near the top of the list, a title of an essay caught my eye. Why You Should Share Your Game Designs. In it, he says several of the things that I wrote in my own rant, but he does it in a much more eloquent and justified manner. Just thought you all might be interested in the article, as well as in what appears to me to be a fabulously rich blog that I really should take more time to dive into. Cheers! In Christ, |

I wish there would be Christian blogs like this. Maybe there are some good ideas but if you want to make something Heaven in mind then I suppose this is not very good. Best ideas come from God but even our hearts maybe right to receive such its still a long way to implement what you got. But it's all in the Lords hands of course... Horse is prepared for the battle but the wictory is Lord's. This is bit oftopic but I am referring to spiritual battle which we can be all part of even when developing games. God bless. ------------------ [VoHW] (Help needed) [Blog] - Truedisciple (mp3) |

honestly, the problem that I have when I share my game designs is that I end up losing steam. that and I hate talking about something I'm creating until I have atleast some embodiment of it constructed. it's just awkward. "so yeaah... I got this story where this guy lives in this fantasy world.. and well, his parents where killed and so he swear vengeance, and while working on becoming the best fighter in the world he meets this woman who he falls in love with and kisses and stuff..." anyhow, the guys made some good points. in my experience, game design changes huge amounts over development, especially in group projects. that happened alot in the game that some guys here and I are making. ------------------ |

yeah I know what you're talking about Arch. I don't really like to talk about what I'm making until I've got some sort of proof to show that I can and will do it. ------------------ |

Well, I've got an idea for a game. In fact, it's pretty much programmed and ready to go - I just need funding. It's like an MMOG, but anyone can host a server, w' 16 to 24 players able to be in it at a time. ...oh wait... The fear of your idea getting stolen is usually misplaced paranoia, imo. Many times the people most afraid of this have the worst ideas. Or they copied their idea off of someone else(like me )(hence their fear of idea theft - the old "I call you a liar because I'm one."), with one single modification that they think makes it "Incredible". |

Well I think sharing design ideas are ok, (unless you're in business ). But I will definately keep my story ideas unrevealed. I have had some ideas about giving a sword more control in a game, with a mouse, it wouldn't have as much control as like a WiiMote (after all, that's in 3D space), but I think it would be almost close. ------------------ [This message has been edited by LAVA (edited December 31, 2006).] |

Scary... I've been racking my brain for the past few days and i've got nothing new! Besides some strange goblin-vs roman soldiers 2d lemming war (I dreamed it, don't ask) and a command-and-congure creekbed stratigy battle vs/ some beaked frog and some upright frog guy with huge arms (again, Don't ask. I ddin't dream it but I'm not sure how the gameplay would go. I"M OUT oF IDEAS!!!! *hopless sobbing* *not realy sobbing, but i'm sad* ------------------

Anyone have any ideas of unique gameplay concepts? I just got an idea of one, a multiplayer game, where you have torches, every character has a torch, but not all of them are on fire. And then everybody online, their character has unique skills and limitations (it would be given to them randomly in the server). Well the object of the game is to light on fire a big pit or bon fire, but as you go to fufill that goal there are things you can accomplish that no one else can and there are obstacles. So when you run into those obstacles you have to pass the fire to the next person until the goal is completed. It's a simple idea that could get boring after a while, but I think more can be built off of it. ------------------ [This message has been edited by LAVA (edited January 04, 2007).] |

pretty cool, Lava. I've always had my motion game there, an unattainable goal. actually not that unattainable, I could always do it, I'd just have to learn Pygame. which I at the time do not have time for. so I wait, until I do have time. ------------------ |

quote: Something along these lines was recently developed -- you might be interested in trying it out. It's called Determinance. Just because someone's already tried this doesn't mean that another couldn't take the same idea and make it even better -- sometimes new and unique game types don't get fun until the 3rd or 4th generation, because there's so much that can be added and improved upon. --clint |
