I just found a really cool site, www.fun-motion.com. It has reviews on games that use physics really well, and lots of them are free to download. I love those kinds of games, but I just wish I could make them...

the physics itself isn't hard... the collision detection is the tough part...

Especially in 2D..

I think I could do at least some of that stuff, though I'm still trying to figure out the math for ragdolls.

have a look into Constraint Based Verlet Integration Physics. The best article was from a guy called Thomas Jakobsen. He wrote an article about the physics system he wrote for the game Hitman for IO Interactive.

Thomas Jakobsen

I was able to setup a 3D constraint ragdoll figure (not attached to a mesh), but was working on attaching the bones to the constraints. I was using Ogre for the rendering system, and the verlet was similar to what Thomas was talking about.

I also did some testing with grass. I was able to get about 6,400 blades of grass (represented as lines) with each blade consisting of 6 constraints (ie, 38,400 constraints). It looked pretty impressive cause I could edit the 'force' being applied and made it look relatively 'alive' considering they were just lines. I should post some pictures up sometime.
