When I first came here last year, I found the spam topics very entertaining. They were fun to get involved with. Then I started joining other forums for the RPGMaker software, and noticed they had rules against spam. You could get banned for spamming too much, your topic could get locked if it got spammed on more then three times in a row (not just by the same person) at that time I was not very active here, but when I came back there were alot of great sounding topics, but when I read them they were littered with spam posts, with only a couple of on-topic posts, needless to say the actual topic was killed. So after a while of being active in a lot of topics, I started to get tired of the spams topics, especially in my topics because it got off topic so badly, and lost the whole point of the topic. My whole point in this is that I am just curious who is sick of spam, and who just doesn't care. i don't like spam posts, unless the whole thing is geared towards it. like the "girls..whats..blah blah blah" thread, it's more of a conversation. but the serious threads should stay serious, don't post one line comments just to get a higher number underneath your name ------------------ proverbs 25:7 www.gfa.org - Gospel for Asia www.persecution.com - Voice of the Martyrs |

Although I sometimes contribute to the spam, I think it should stop. I think we'll get alot more help and learn alot more from eachother if we can go 4 posts without something meaningless.
It just strikes me as odd that somebody would do that. globalrant http://globalrant.wastextgames.com [This message has been edited by crazyishone (edited February 16, 2006).] |

Good, another person who agrees. I am glad! =D Yeah, I contribute to the spam too, but only because it is already there, lol. I do not know why people would do that either... but on Crankeye's forum for the RPGMaker, some people have over 2000 posts because they spammed, and several guys got banned because they spammed alot more then that. What controls do the Administrator have against spam? I know some forums allow them to just delete spam posts, others allow them to lock spammed topics... So what of the control on this site? ------------------ Current Project: |

I know I have spammed a whole lot before, but I would say that if we want to keep CCN alive then we will DEFINANTLY have to cut the spam. I say we have a few threads like the girls one where people can just spam away and get it all out so they dont spam the serious topics. ------------------ |

I don't like SPAM either and do my best not to get too off topic. However I am in favor of spam threads dedicated to spam. ------------------ ``After three days without programming, life becomes meaningless.'' -- Tao of Programming Book 2 |

I have commented several times about how I don't like the drivel (spam) on these boards that dilutes the good content. I think you all know my position on this. |

I don't like spam, and I have found that a good way of not spamming is trying to positively and progressively contribute to the subject. Now I'm not targeting anyone with this example, I have done it in the past as well, but like say someone says "hey could someone help me with Photoshop, please?", instead of replying with like "Oh I don't know anything about Photoshop, sorry." try finding them good tutorials concerning the subject or don't post anything at all, otherwise you are just knocking yourself down and clogging up the board with worthless posts. I hope this helps ------------------ [This message has been edited by lava (edited February 17, 2006).] |

one's post should provide some relevance to the subject. if there is some link, it's usually not to bad. but I agree with the people above me, that the degree of spamming depends on the seriousness of the topic. if it's technical, more people will look at the topic for information, not a friendly conversation. but spazzing is worse than spamming, in my mind. I'm not trying to criticize anybody(RM, your coming a long way, and I respect that), but seeing an irrelevant post isn't as annoying as seeing "AAAHAHAhhhahahaAHAHA!!!!!1111!!!11oneone!!11! I am Hax0r5!?" and what's worse... is l33t. it is the root of all internet evils. point is, spamming can be distracting, but not the worst forum sin, and I think we handle it pretty well here. it is limited to non-sense topics, like "girls..." and we stay pretty close to the subject on serious threads. I actually practically left the ccgr forums because of the high level of spamming. it just became chaotic. strangely enough, the rise of spam came soon after the rise of l33t... ------------------ |
