C.S. Lewis's stepson came to my school today and gave a speech. He is the co producer of the movie btw, and the whole thing was his doing. Anyway, one thing in particular that he said really spoke to me as God's calling for me. He said that he thinks that most books and movies that are made to be christian are usually boring and dont sell very well. Ant that the world doesn't need more people making christian books, but more christians making good books. I think that this could be applied to making games as well. We should not set out to make a purely christian game, but rather, as a christian, try to make the best game we can. If making games is what God truly wants us to do then all we have to do is start the game, and let the holy spirit lead us from that point on. Well these are my thoughts on the subject, what do you guys think? ------------------ [This message has been edited by questleader (edited February 10, 2006).] |

I think what he says makes alot of sense. Going off of my perception of what Christians seem to believe:: If you are living your life according to the Word, the fruit of your actions will be righteous. (Thats a big IF.) So basically, if you are living a righteous life and heeding God's commands, the "products of your labor" will be righteous as well. Be a good christian, make a good game, chances are....it will be a Good Christian Game. How many "spirit filled believers" do you think would "accidentally" make Brain Sucking BloodSpray Demon Simulator because they didn't plan their 2D racing game to have a Christian twist? ------------------ |

I think the secret lies in more than just living your life "according to the word" because, frankly, if you reason long enough you can twist the word around into pretty much anything, doesn't mean it's true, just that you can justify anything you want if you try hard enough. Another vital part lies in a real, genuine, close relationship with God himself. Unless you really KNOW him, not just about him, and are willing to submit yourself and draw close to him regularly. The level of true, honest, undoctored faith that comes through in the Chronicles of Narnia comes only from a true, close walk and relationship with God, not just from knowing about Him. ------------------ |

What use it is to make something that is "good" (something that people like) ?
quote: Amen. Any one can look in the Bible to "see" if he's actions are just, but when it comes to writing books and making video games you have to know Father. And that happens only by seeking His kingdom from all your heart. ------------------ [VoHW] (Help needed) [Blog] - Truedisciple (mp3) |

Yeah in fact C.S. Lewis himself said that when he wrote Wardrobe that he didn't study the psychological mind of Children and then purposely put in Christian allegory, he said it all came to him as images, and the Christian symbology came together on it's own. If someone is following the Word of God then it will be like that, I believe. ------------------ |

ok, back to the earlier discussion... i'm not a game programmer, or Christian author or anything, but i do know this. if you a truely a Christian, a truely living each day seeking God's will and fellowshipping with God, then God will take care of the "details". if you are a coder, you'll have to learn how to code, if you are a writer you will need to know how to write, but God will take care of what to write, or what to code, and your fruit's(you will bear more than one, even if not at first) will be rightous, rightous being Godly. it's like me being a preacher, if i'm doing everything in my life(and my closet ) God will take care of the preaching. i have to study, i have to prayer, i have to seek God daily and have good fellowship with Him, and He'll bless me for it. it's kind of like we have to try to take care of the vessal and God will take care of filling it up and deciding when, where, and how to pour it out. i hope this makes sense. ------------------ proverbs 25:7 www.gfa.org - Gospel for Asia www.persecution.com - Voice of the Martyrs |
