I've got it, the PERFECT christmas "game"! Okay, so its not perfect... its not even really christan (  well, you can MAKE it that way, and i intend too...)Name: Christmas Lights What it does: Your presented with a white, blank, "page" of sorts. Use your mouse to create colorful strings of X-mas lights! With some comp-help you can make your lights go from colorful to clear, to all one color or the other! Click to start a string of lights, click again to end it! Change light colors and patters! Either solid color, or a blinking pattern of your choice! Write, or make cool pictures (such as a cross or christmas tree) Now that i have that down, only a few things are left. 1: To blitz on the programming and gfx to get them as near perfect as 15 days allow 2: To ask you guys this: Which do YOU do first, Gfx, or coding? plz respond soon, i start tommorow! pray for me to FINISH and PERFECT this game, i'd make a perfect family gift. thanks! oh, and tell me what you think! ------------------ Blessed are those who suffer for doing what is right. Sounds like a good beginning to electronic greeting card design software. Although you are targeting your application for this coming holiday, perhaps you should consider enhancing it for all holidays (yes, including non-US holidays too). The Christmas Light idea is a nice touch, especially with the features you listed. I think you have more potential though. Perhaps something like a winter wonderland scheme? build a snowman scheme? decorate a christmas tree scheme? add in some select writing with the option to do your own, perhaps add a picture as well...you really have many possibilities. Your idea could be worth something.  My recommendation: You should plan your project out first, so you know exactly what you want to acheive. Then build your base application to make sure the minimum features work like you want them to, using rough art if you need to as a placeholder. From there, add on the graphics to what works fine. And then experiment with new features. Just be sure you keep a backup of your project in case you have to rollback. I hope it works out well for you. I think it's a good idea, but maybe a little more substance, maybe it could be a game where your character is a little boy and he wants to buy a gift for his poor family, and he will be paid if he decorates Christmas lights on houses for various neighbors. personally i like the simplicity of it. doesnt really need a storyline. like nfektious said, u can go places with this, as far as giving the user a ton of possibilites::: i.e.: background image foreground images (movable and resizable) light strands (with their many options) themed stuff--(lightup plastic snowmen, wireframe reindeer thingies) u can make it an actual GAME too, if u wanted too. Try to make the most pleasing design, to bring in as many points as possible. with these points, u can "purchase" bigger power supplies (more lights ..WOOT), themed stuff (santa things,big plastic candy canes, wreaths, nativity scene stuff). Heres how a player might lose::: u must beat your score from the previous level, ohterwise you lose. It might seem easy to beat the previous level score, but there is a strategy. Say u play lvl one, and as soon as u finish u go blow all your points on another light strand. then, next lvl u really need to "kick it up a notch" to make sure you can progress, but u dont have enuff points stored up to buy that crucial item. but, u might not want it that complicated. if so, forget all but the first 2 paragraphs, lol. ------------------ |

Whoohoo!!! (sorry for the double post, btw) I just reached my first-day goal! and its only 1:00!!! I have completed what i set out todo today: make my game so taht you can create strings of lights! But for now the GFX are HORRIBLE so it dosn't look the best. but wiht the clcik of the mouse button, you can create a new string of lights which follows your mouse! click agian, and the string is complete. so far no blinking or lighting up, just my basic beginnins, but its still a first taht i set out to do something and acutally got it done! Showcase as soon as possible. this'll make a great "stocking suffer" for my family and friends (i hope...) ------------------ Blessed are those who suffer for doing what is right. Hey!! I made a snowman background you can use IF YOU WANT!! I tried to animate it... But i couldn't figure it out, and then i was saving it just as I realized what I had done wrong... I need to add eyes and a mouth and nose and stuff, but i might have to get off, so I am just gonna upload this before I commit too much (in case you don't want to use it) and then change stuff and have the final version ready in case you do use it.. THNX! I haven't had GIMP long, but I love using it, its so cool, so I kinda picked it up fast... I have some really cool stuff I've made, like a Lineage 2 banner... among other things... I like that idea about images... Do you mean like photographs? I can do some pretty cool edge effects, might be able to find a christmasy one and do some effects on a family picture if i knew of one other than my family's one and its not christmasy.. (i could find one online, but that would be weird if the people played the game, and it could turn into some kinda weird lawsuit...) What is 800x900, the picture i made or the games backround? The picture is 500 by 500, i don't know why it looks like a rectangle... I will try to get it online the size you want...(what dimensions do you want i can scale it easy) If you want i can make the snowman animate... and i could work on a menu that would have blinking xmas lights or something... cant do it right now gotta go to a chrismas party but i could tomorrow or when i get back... Ah!! help! thanks a lot! well, nother update: colored lights! Blure, red, green, yellow and white! You can chage your color by pressing either the up arrow or down arrow.. not so sure about my new gfx, though there A HECK OF A LOT BETTER than my other ones... i might keep them! Oh gosh i hope it turns out okay. and the idea for the backgrouunds is this: People with digital cameras can take a pic of them and their family, by a snowman or say in front of their house. they then turn it into a .png and decorate it with the lights!! A question... Would you be able to use a scanner too? I mean, some people don't have digital cameras, but people usually have printers, and most printers have scanners on them. Also, do you want me to do any more graphics for ya, i can do a menu thing for you if you send me some of your graphics i can use them in a menu or other stuff like that... And i have an idea for you... Do you think you would be able to set it up so you can put the finished product as a desktop or a screensaver... You could set it up so that people can turn their picture, with the lights, into a desktop or a screensaver.. (the screensaver thing might be too hard to do)Just some ideas... I'm working on that snowman thing to get a finished version on here... What dimensions do you want? ------------------ |

Hey!! I have the finished product of the snowman... I made it animated so that the snowman waves at you... You could use it as a loading screen or if you can figure out how to you can make it an animating background...or if you want i can give you an animating and non-animating version... whatever!! I also gave it eyes, a nose, and a mouth (i think it looks pretty good now) oh and i gave it buttons... Desktop picture: Easy! but there will be no blinking lights... Screensaver: Impossible, for me anyway... I was just planning ot make it a SAP, Small Addicting Program... scanner? no, i don't have a scaner, but people can use that. 900x800 on the snow dude... i think i can manage my own menu, though... if there will even BE a menu. Games almost done! only a few things to add: Blinking Patterns Rect Selecing (to change colors, patterns, etc.) Background changing (to family photos, pre-made backgrounds, etc) Possibly better GFX Screenie pictures used for desktops... EXTRA SUFF I WILL ADD IF I GET THE TIME: Saving your stuff (hard, but possibly doable for me) like you can load it again wiht the background and color and position and patters of all the strings of lights... I don't know if there are any animating desktops... But you could figure out a way... Or you know those little desktop dudes? The pets and stuff... You could make the lights and stuff like one of those... It would simply be big enough to cover the whole desktop... except that might cover up your icons... never know.. maybe you could be the first person to make an animating desktop like lava said...whatever!! ------------------ |
