(spin-off from all of those art related comps)

I have noticed there are a alot of REALLY good artists at this site. (and some good up-and-comers).
this is a "competition", per se. Really its just a submission gallery.
Show your best stuff! With artists like Lava, Kiwee, iyontheon , and many others, this could be really cool.

anything goes, a complete art free-for-all. From logos to web graphics, from 3D Models to cartoons scanned from actual paper, anything goes.

and, u dont have to make a new piece(s). Anything you have works, I guess we can vote towards the end.

gonna be part of my wallpaper... but oh well, why not?
I don't come out with much work, so most you will see is repeats.

Nice work Arch and Kiwee!

Here's a concept pic of a character named "Kios", from a secret project.

It's a bit rough but will do

first of all, you guys have some awesome stuff. g4c , i had no idea you were a good artist. I knew arch was, but the thought that you might be didn't really cross my mind. I think DR told me once, but i thot she was just being all "gaga".

well here is some of my mediocre artwork. all of the hand-drawn is almost two years old. i have some newer (better) stuff i will probably scan in soon. don't pick on me too much. (also, you may recognize alot of this stuff from elsehwere.)

(also, please dont mock the concept art titled "stuedabager family) the game was intended to be a collection of mini-games relying heavily on comedy for a side-dish of entertainment...just...dont mock.

Thanks, a lot of those pics are a few months/years old, lol. The most current one is probally the guy who i didn't finish so he has only one arm. Your 18? Im 15 and i've been drawing ever since i can remember. I used to draw dragons a lot, then people, then swords, and now... I just draw whatever comes to mind, lol. Do you have a link so I can see the ;arger versions of those pics?

lol, cool. I used to draw fantasy little knight things, lol... I do not know what they really are they are just very strange. But then I got into drawing weapons, and I have a million of 'em, lol. Then DR got me into drawing horses which I have a few pretty good ones, all of which I gave to her. Then I got back into drawing weapons and knights, and still horses, but I love drawing always have... it is like the one thing I can do to get my mind off of things.

Ummm.. here is the link to the site with the bigger pics:

You shouldn't even have to think about that g4c, you of all people should know that I only say things when I mean it (and when it's true). =)

Edit: You guys are all really good. Definitely better than I can do, especially considering I haven't put a ton of time practicing in the art area of things.....

lol. Sorry Crazyishone -- beyond the Yahoo! group, there is not a real webpage for Mite yet. One of these days, I might try adding one of those to the site for a logo though. When I *do* get a real website for Mite though, I'll certainly be using these logos. I was seriously impressed with the quality of all of those logos.

I haven't done any drawing in a couple of years at least so these are all older.. I couldn't find my most recent one either, which was probably the best.

The one I couldn't find isn't colored but the drawing was better quality.

Thanks for the compliments guys

I have a brother and a sister who are artists (not professionaly) the brother does alot of drawings with colored pencils and the sister does more paintings, but does some drawings as well. Actually I have another sister who is a graphic artist as well, I forgot about that because she quit her career to raise her kids.
I've been drawing on an off since I was a little kid (I'm currently 30) but I have never really seriously pursued drawing so it was mostly just every once in a while sitting down and scetching. Occasionaly one of my siblings will organize an art day where we get together and do different creative stuff, whatever you feel like doing at the time. The biggest improvements in my drawing came because I learned (both through art history in college and also through tips from my brother and sister) some of the rules of perspective and proportion. I was amazed how big a difference a few little tips and tricks like that can make.

My main artistic endevour has always been painting miniatures and that helped me alot with understanding shading and highlighting which then helps with drawing too.

In the pictures I posted in here.. the first one of the two guys in red and blue was mainly just goofing around, and I was trying out a new type of colored pencil my brother had found which when used properly looks very rich and vibrant, as much as paint.
The second two pictures of the guys in black were concept drawings of the elite household soldiers for a noble family in a story I was planning. They are cavalry troopers armed with lances, a long sword, and a short sword. They would also have shields but I never got around to drawing the shield.

The drawing I can't find (I'm still looking for it) was of a knight kneeling. The knight was finished, and I was going to draw the background as if he were in a church, I started on a stained glass window behind him but didn't finish it yet. I really liked that one because the knight's helmet was off and he was looking straight ahead at you, the face was the best job I've ever done on a face, which was also why I never got around to coloring it, I was afraid I would ruin the face.

I am afraid I will not turn out a full person until I save enough for a pad. In the process of adding color via photoshop I tend to mess something up. I might do a sketch but not a final full pose pic. Thanks for the comments. I hope someone will ask for my help for concept art or web design help.

Also I do sketchs of peoples ideas that are not art talented.

well, i started the thread, and intended it to NOT be a comp. i said it was a spin-off of the art-related comps, but only cuz it had to do with art. I wanted it to be more of a place to...post yer artistic resumer, if you will. .

also, it is nice to just throw stuff on without competing in a rule-based comp.

EDIT:::
Wait, I guess I did say something about possibly voting...either way, i dont think we should. that puts an end to something intended to be more of a bulletin board for yer work.

best thing to do to learn art is to draw objects in the most relaxing place in your house our out side. and draw it and focus on these things

*poportion (spelling )
*shadows
*lines

by lines i mean what value does a certain line add. if you leave lines in your finished product you should be able to tell what each one does.

just some things i picked up from art class.

Thank you. If anybody wants to get good at Photoshop I advise visiting sites such as www.good-tutorials.com or www.pixel2life.com and doing tons of those tuts. The more the better. I did all of that and can work with photoshop pretty well.

Hmmm, if I had a scanner I'd put you all in awe and amazement, but what I do have uploaded (digital camera) you've seen, might as well post it again.

I'll try to upload some more stuff later.

Here's the uploaded images, I didn't bother to do any editing in photoshop so they're not 56k friendly.

You do a great job shading Captain Stank. And as we all know (or should) shading is the key to pencil art and 3D art Jeff

Yeah, I'm self taught. I just like drawing so I do it all the time. The best thing you can do is find an artist that you like and attempt to copy or recreate their work. Don't trace. At first you may be disappointed with the outcome but don't quit. Basically I'm never satisfied with my work, and I don't suspect anyone to be 100% satisfied with their own stuff either.

Here's my favorite artists. Most of that work is based off of them:
www.happypencil.com <- Cam De'leon. He does album art and commercial art for bands like Tool as well as sculptures for Treasure Island Casino in Vegas.
www.sonsofthestorm.com <-- The dudes behind Blizzard Entertainment's art. Someone mentioned who did World of Warcraft stuff? Well that's them. Samwise, Twincruiser, Metzen are my favorite although I havn't looked at the newest artest's work.

niiice... I've been biting of Blizzard art for a while. love their stuff. although I don't like drawing other people's stuff (just like to make my own), I probably should take your advice and copy some of their work. gracias.

These are some of my more recent works.

This one was on the front of my site. It's an emem from my book.

This one took me 8 hours or so, and the real version is 300dpi at about 12X12inches.

Now this one I did way back, and it's been used on this site for a long time. I gave Krylar permision to use them because he did a favor for me at the time.

This year I wanted to redo my .gif work and I went with the character from my book in this one. I'm sure you see a resemblence to the above one. I've always loved white hair.

Look it's a chibby version! Anyhoot, if you want to see about fifty or so more of these go to my site www.vailion.com and click on "Pictures & Art." I don't have the time to post all of them here.

Here are a few of mine. Nothing Incredible but I enjoyed them. It was a good way to get my feelings out and into something I could look at. Now I don't do much drawing, mostly just rough stuff to give me a general idea of what I want and then a schematic (top, side, front) that I use to model in front of.

You use Strata I got into 3D because of Strata. I don't use it any more, but its a great program to learn some of the concepts of 3D with out really getting into true 3D. Keep it up, and when you feel limited by it move on to Cinema 4D or something like it. I use Cinema 4D and Maya right now, along with a scattering of other apps. Jeff

I took a .gif that I did, a picture of me, and molded them to bring a character more to life for Michele's site. I also did the contiues background for her contents. It's all one leaf that took an hour to draw, and I minipulated in photoshop.

Just write the first thing that comes into your head. You could try doing a NANO thing. Go over to www.christianwriters.com and they are currently doing it. The idea is to just sit down and keep writing no matter what untill you've got a novela within a month. Even some of the finist writers on the board their can't pull it off. I've done it once, but I don't care for the means.

I used to do alot of writing a while ago, write the parts that is more clear in your head, even if it's not the beginning of the story, in fact that's the hardest part of it all, did you know that writer who wrote Gone with the Wind wrote the ending first? I could see that, because the beginning of the story has to line up with the ending.

Yes there is a Windows version, I was just looking for it, I can't find it, if you can't find it I can send you it, I should still have the installer, Strata 3.5Base is just the demo anyways.

Hi Lava,
I am very impressed by your Chess set.
I would like to make one of my own.
I wrote a chess program a while back and the graphics were very poor.

I just downloaded POV-Ray.
It has taken me a few hours to figure out how to scale, transform, and rotate correctly for the basic objects. (trial and error)
I think I have the basics down but I still don't understand phong, textures, turbulence, and other lighting specific details.
I would assume most chess pieces would be based on a spline /lathe shape.

Thanks for the feedback y'all!

What 3D graphics programs do you use?
I've played with POV-RAY and no one else has mentioned anything about it.
It could be that it is not used in the game creation realm.
So what do you all use?

That is a good guess, I actually made all of the pieces part by part. Though lathe would be a better and easier way of doing it.

Pov-Ray I have not heard of it's use in game development, but if it can export into 3ds or some other format commonly used by engines it probably can work with games.

I use Wings 3d, Blender and Strata CX. In that order of use.
