Hello all, Im working on a game design, more for fun than anything but who know's if it might get made some day. But im asking for feed back on what people think of the game design This is one of those games that I beleave and Hopes hold's christian virtues, However is marketed for the unbeleaver and has evalngelistic abilities, such as using real scripture in the game that is known to have evangelism effects.. (Even everytime you leave the game, a random scripture will pop up like, for god so loved the world....) But anyway Defenders of the Faith. Or Heavens Fire For all the fans of games that bring something a little new to the industry as well as something old. The Game design will feature both. A Game system much like the Warcraft Real Time Strategy Game how ever instead of Playing the commander(Amplified version. Player who controls all aspects of his realm) of the army, popping out troops, using peasants to mine for resources and controlling units to go to battle. You instead choose one character to use from a class list and play it as a action game much like a good hack n slash dungeon crawler such as champions of Norrath, So.. Let the computer Handle the economy and troops of your realm, Just like the AI of Warcraft handles there war(Like in warcraft how you can play Humans. while the game AI controls the orcs), you just hop right into the game with one character and play a fast action strategy hack and slash game. What else is up with this game.. Well this game is coded in heaven. A Christian theme to the game with spiritual power ups and lessons in Love, Honor, and Courage. If you like playing as a Wizard you would love Playing as a Prophet, Just as Elijah Rained fire down from Heaven, So shall you, getting all your power from god to defeat the enemy. As well as Playing Warriors, Knights, Rangers, Clerics and maybe even more. Question. So. Again What exactly is this game and what will it offer? How do they build up a Army? You ask. What of Peasants... They are crucial for the economy of the game for everything costs resources. Buildings need wood or stone, Units need food and gold. While upgrades can use any of the four resources. That’s basically what a real time strategy game system looks like. But this game isn’t played as a Real Time Strategy game. Its played like a Fast Paces Hack And Slash Game, Just Using the RTS Game system to make things interesting. The Computer Controls all aspects of Army Growth and resources. The Players (Yes its Multi-player) Only focus on there own Personal Character.. They Play as sort of Hero’s of the War. Classes Will be. As of right now however the list is growing. A Warrior A Knight A Ranger A Cleric A Prophet The Game will also be top down. To support a more brainless hack and slash battle system. Well.. That’s a good dose of the game system.. But you may ask.. What of Christianity.
Well.. thats the game in a nut shell, for the most part this should give you a good idea of what the game is all about, if youve never played a Real time strategy game things might be foggy but thats okay. So Please give me and ups and downs about the game design you might have |

Hey Matherhorn! Welcome to the boards! Interesting idea! I like the idea of playing a RTS from the perspective of the grunt. I've played a fair bit of RTS games, but it's still a little fuzzy in my mind exactly what you're envisioning, but overall, it sounds pretty cool. The main thing that stuck out at me was the whole issue of a prophet being able to use gifts from God offensively like that -- it sounds "cool", but I'm just not terribly comfortable writing the miracles of God into a script like that. It's not like a level 5 prophet can cast Holy Fire, and when you hit level 10 you can do the Water-Into-Blood miracle -- God works through various people at various times according to His will -- not according to our agenda or our purposes. Certainly, if you're not walking well with God, he tends not to use you as much. I dunno' -- you asked for comments and criticism, and those are my thoughts. Regardless, I'm interested by the idea! Very glad to have you on the boards here -- I look forward to learning more about you and hearing what God has put on your heart! Respectfully, ------------------ |

God works through various people at various times according to His will -- not according to our agenda or our purposes Thats a very good point.. which would apply to both Cleric and Prophet.. The only healthy alternative I can think of is. becous I like the idea of the deverstity of classes. Say one player used a Healer, one a warrior etc Making the game not a midevil Fantasy Game.. but a quasa Sci-FI Fantasy Game. And Not prophets for offensive spell casting mockery character.. but Techno-Soldier or something.. The Limite would be Power Cells.. say at level one.. you get 50 units of power cells.. and when you fire one of your non-melee weapons. it drains your power and you need to wait for it to recharge.. or buy power cell's and carry them around.. Its hard for me to describe the game.. lack of writing skills probebly but ill give it another try Imagine playing a Real Time Strategy game.. with 2 sides.. One side being the Lord's Army.. One side being the Dark Ones Army.. |

Of course, my real main concern is that I want this to be a Evangalistic game.. however.. what would be the hidden message Witnessing the Gospel through Animated Violence and Blood shed.??? Hmm.. Being a new christian my mind is still in that gear.. I mean there is spiritual warfair.. and my goal is to adapt this game to represent more spiritual warfair truths..
Oh well.. My Idea of Evangelical Christian games that are violent. is the same as a Tough Christian Teen Ager who would beet up a school bully, and witnessing the gospel becous he protected the weeker one.. while in fact. a more non violent way would realy show the light of christ. quote: I don't know. It's like trying to mix darkness and light, they don't mix because one rules out another.
quote: True, we should over come evil with good. So maybe the game's "battles" should be all spiritual fights in a way that the "enemy" attacks with negative words and actions while player must counter attack with positive things. I'm thinking abstractly. ------------------ |

If I could make the final quest book into a video game I would.. the enemy uses arrows of bitterness and stuff like that.. the christians gain levels by climbing new levels of a mountain a they fight of there.. awsome book.. demons defacing christians.. all sorts of stuff.. |

Sounds awesome to me, even if you can't play as the bad guys. I love RTS and RPG's, and mixing them up sounds great... You could get uber-powers bestowed on you when you finish a quest or something, and do mini-quests for simpler rewards. I kind of like the "kick a crapload of *** " games but maybe if you don't want it to turn into a mindless bloodbath you could sort of give it a stealthy twist? Like sneaking around and using non-lethal takedowns to make it to an objective, or leading enemy forces away from your village... and then pwning the **** out of them! ... in a peaceful manner. |

I had an idea like that once, only I added some more stuff to it. Firstly, you start on the outside of a small door. You walk through that door, and int o a new level. So, in each of these progressive levels there is another door, staning on its own, in the middle of nowhere, and you have to complete certain tasks to get it to open up into a large, more difficult level (If you've ever read the Chronicles of Narnia you'll know what I mean) and the end of the game reveals that each level was just a ledge on this huge mountain that you were climbing the whole time. ------------------ |
