I was thinking about several different things earlier, and one of them was what platform I prefer playing games on, and what genre I prefer playing. At this moment I prefer the XBox, over all of the other consoles (It is a close second for the PS2) I would probably prefer the PSP over the DS, but I only have played the DS. As far as genres are concerned, I prefer RPG's, and FPS's over most other genres, but I also enjoy MMORPG's and RTS's. What do you all think of the current platforms, genres, and the upcoming next-gen stuff? Any favorites? For all of you non-gamers reading this (if any, lol): ------------------ |

quote: I don't like consoles. You can only play games on them and you have to really hack them to put linux on it or some other OS to use it like a computer. FPS - First For console games I guess I like Mario Carts the best. ------------------ [This message has been edited by CPUFreak91 (edited October 03, 2005).] |

lol, well the whole purpose of a game console is to have a home based arcade, lol, but I get your point about consoles. Actually, super mario brothers is a platformer... I think they got that name because of the fact that you are jumping from platform to platform as the majority of the game, lol. ------------------ |

lol, yeah. For some games I prefer computer, namely Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind (THE BEST RPG EVER!!!!) but I find the controls a little difficult (Grew up on consoles) for any other game, especially intense shooters like Unreal Tournament. But RTS's have their home on the computer, Warcraft III (The best RTS ever!) ------------------ |

I think this is one area that you and I agree, lol. There had to be one right? But anyway, I forgot about turn-based strategy, lol, I love those too. My mind is fried right now, so I cannot think of any examples. ------------------ |

RTS belongs to the PC, FPS can be done right on both the console and on PC, and the rest should be handled by console. I think all of the current and next-gen consoles have their perks. Its all in what you feel like playing. Gamecube is mainly family/kid friendly, PS2 is a strange mishmash of all sorts of games, and X-Box is geared toward the older audience (and wisely so). the battlefiled games are alot of fun, and meant to be played on the pc, whereas Halo on the PC is not quite as appealing. It has alot to do with game style. ------------------ |

I dunno... in my mind, platformers are the only ones that consoles are superior in. mouse > thumbstick ------------------ |

i wouldnt want to play a racing game on PC. unless i had a wheel and pedals....but you can get those for consoles as well. There is one other thing tho...when playing an FPS on PC, its little more than a "shoot the duck and get $500!!" popup! lol. its still "point n' click"...so, as they are still fun on the PC, some may argue that console FPS's are more challenging. ------------------ |

I like RPG's most, then the Action\Adventure type games, then sports... FPS's are alright, but I may like them even more with the new Nintendo's unique controller! ------------------ |

Yeah, I agree with ya Crazyishone. There are genres that belong on certain platforms. Brandon, I know what you meann, I saw the preview from the Tokyo game show for this year, the controllers look different, but if they do everything they are advertising then they should be a MAJOR innovation on how gamers... game, lol. Nintendo definitely brought the touch-screen to life in gaming, maybe they will bring motion detection into it even better then any other attempt. ------------------ |
