Theres been alot of talk about "SIm Pastor". I am the original creator of the Idea. I've already started working on it and I would please ask you to leave the project alone. I know this sounds kinda selfish but I've been working on this project for a while. The game will be a free game. And if you would like to be part of the projet just pm me. thanks

one's ideas are apart of who they are; I must agree with you. As the Christian gaming Industry, it is imperative that we respect that. (if you knew me, I'm pretty protective about my stuff)

yeah, en, so no making a Arbiter game without my permission. lol.

I agree it would be better to pool resources and that we should not steal another persons idea 'whole piece'. However, to assume that other people can not have come up with the same idea as yourself is rather arrogant. I continualy get frustrated when I see a great idea I had for a game get released!!

Furthermore, our whole society is built upon the ideas of others. Also, I can almost guarantee that many of the ideas any of us use in our games have been influenced by other games/movies we have watched. Usualy, many people will get very similiar ideas after watching the same movie (or combination of movies/games).

Sorry, but you rate your own importance too highly! However, I do hope that you can pool resources and work together. If not, then whats the harm in having two sim pastor games anyway - especialy if yours is free??

God Bless,
Rhy

actually, I'd disagree with Ryholite... NEVER steal someone else's idea.
get inspiration, sure, but blatant ripping off is robbery.
if you want to use the idea, ask the person.

if you both come up with the same idea, fine, no harm there. But en did come up with Sim Pastor( the actual name is Man of God, i believe.. make sure not to rip off Maxis) and talk spawned after that. it is his intellectual property. It is not arrogant, just as it's not arrogant to claim an item as yours.. either that or your a commie.

Society may be built on ideas of others, but it never should be built off of stealing other's ideas. he's not rating his own importance, just claiming his own creation. granted he doesn't get to own all pastor simulation, but taking up his own idea is unethical.

but, en, on one note, becareful when giving out your game ideas, unless they are meant for public consumtion.

Hi,

From my first post:
"I agree it would be better to pool resources and that we should not steal another persons idea 'whole piece'."

Glad we are all in agreement. My point was only about ideas that have developed seperatly (but often in a similar manner) amongst several people. That is what I believed happened in this situation? If an idea was actualy stolen, then yeah, I would be niffed as well.

God Bless,
Rhy

Sim Pastor, sounds Great!

hey have any of you guys read This Present Darkness by Frank Pertti? Good book, and the pastor gets to rebuke a few deamons too, that would be a cool feature in your game.

Sorry, couldn't help myself

Just so you know, I'm watching this progress with great interest. I think that this could be a really fun game, and I might like to code the project should you ever drop it. However, I'll hold off on writing anything like this until I see where you go with it. Please keep us posted with your progress, and let us know how we can help.

Thanks!

No problem clint. I think we will use irrlicht as the engine.

Irrlicht? I thought Irrlicht was more for FPS games and such. I guess I was envisioning a "SimPastor" more along the lines of Railroad Tycoon or Sim Tower -- seems you've got something bigger planned, neh?

Though I'm a little afraid if I use irrlicht I'll have to do a lot of extra writing. Hmm...this is ganna sound really stupid, but clint, is that engine free? That 3D thing? haha.

Okay -- I kindof see what you're saying. You mean a 3rd person view, right? Kindof like the lightsaber view in the Jedi Knight games, or the way the camera follows your main character in Tomb Raider?

I looked at Irrlicht -- it looks like there's at least one 2d game up there for their demos, and some other interesting ones. It seems as though it could be used for a game like that pretty well.

Hrm... I'm trying to think of which engine you're referring to... I think I've probably talked about both TrueVision3D and RealmForge on here before. Both are free to different extents -- TrueVision3D has a free version but it displays a watermark in the corner unless you pay for it, and RealmForge is completely free (but it's still in alpha -- not even to beta yet).

RealmForge is for C#, and is built on top of Axiom -- the C# port of OGRE. Axiom is on a similar level to Irrlicht as far as usability afaik.

Sadly, I know very little about using 3D engines. I'm more of a 2D kindof guy myself, and so I'd be more than capable to talk about SDL and DirectDraw and all those other things, but if you wanted to know how to use a 3D engine or which one would be good to use, I'm not your man.

Brandon has done some great stuff with 3D, though.

Does that answer your question?

You can e-mail me at hanclinto at gmail dot com if you want to discuss this stuff further off the boards.

In Christ,
clint

Hey! Thanks HanClinto.

I dunno... I've used Irrlicht some in the past, and it's just as good as anything else that I've used. Something that could make it easier for programming the actual code for the game is to first design a simple entity\wrapper set of classes that would help in calling the functions dealing with your entities, tranforming the meshes, billboards, 3D Sounds etc... For example, if you wanted to load a character and some walk, run, or jump animations for him you could have something like:

Entity* person = new Entity();
person->LoadMesh("person.x");
person->LoadMeshAnim("person_walk.x",0);
person->LoadMeshAnim("person_run.x",1);
person->LoadMeshAnim("person_jump.x",2);

if ( keys[VK_RIGHT] ){
person->Move(1,0,0); //move player
person->Anim(0); //walk
}

instead doing something like this everytime:

//It's a mesh
if(inent->ent){
//move player
rotMat.setRotationDegrees(inent->ent->getRotation());
vector3df vRot = vector3df(x,y,z);
rotMat.transformVect(vRot);
vector3df vVec = inent->ent->getPosition();
vVec+=vRot;
inent->ent->setPosition(vVec);
}

Wow! I just looked at the Irrlicht homepage, and it looks like they've been pretty busy since I've last been there! You'll probably be cool sticking with Irrlicht for sure.

Hey, I've got a question, what are you guys using for making the levels? CShop may be a good bet http://www.leadwerks.com
