Like, here's one tip for an RPG thing (to save time and work):
Make the storyline one in which there's a fierce war, and you're on one of the sides, that way there are no shops (enemies don't sell, neutrals don't want to go near you for fear the other side kills em, and allies give you stuff for free so you can win the war), less conversations (only with allies and a few neutrals, though maybe an enemy or two) and you don't have to think of any reason for a battle to start (enemy sees you, enemy attacks you)
