Hey there

I am currently in the planning stages of a game "Child of the Commander". As far as plans go I'm all set, my web site is nearing completion, the storyline, armour, weaponry, mission objectives and gameplay is all worked out on paper and the concept art is copyrighted. But now I feel I'm not sure where to go with it, originally I planned to pull up a team and build a 3 mission total convertion demo using the Q3A engine to send of to gaming companies. I am worried I have missed some detail out, do I need funding for a TC of the Q3 game ? What exactly do I need to take into consideration, what exactly do I need to do to start this project off successfully ?
As far as the game itself I have it all written down and seems fine its managing to make it I'm worried about.

In short What exactly do you need to do from A to Z to follow a gaming concept through efficiantly ?

Hi Ian,

I saw your other post & looked at your web site. Looks like a good start. Can you post how much time commitment you are looking for? That is the major concern for me before sending you an Email.

Regarding your last question of the process of game development, there are a few books written about it. Even still, your progress will probably differ greatly and hopefully in a few years you will be able to write your own book (& hopefully others here).

Just one idea for you to consider, self-publishing. This would be further ideal if you can fund the development work as well (or get volunteer help). You would be able to focus your energy on marketing of a complete project (go ahead and make sure you do the 3-level demo one as well) and not trying to chase down funding.

Feel free to Email me at graceworks@bigfoot.com if you want to discuss anything.

I have the book "Game Architecture and Design". It is a pretty good book, about designing a game, and seeing the project through from start to finish. It is not a programming book, but more of a design/management book. You can read more about it, read user reviews, and pick up a copy at amazon.com for pretty cheap if you are interested.

hey there

thanks for your interest and input. The demo version of "Child of the commander" is hopefully to be built as a total conversion of the quake3 engine to acheive the best results with the least amount of money. For the demo all work will have to be volountary. The full version of the game is not planned to be built using an existing engine and work on this project shall be paid. The demo is sent to proffesional companies interested in the project to help finance the game. Time commitment wise the demo is volountary therefor on your own time hopefully the demo will be completed within a year if it's not then I'll be upset.

The full version will however have a time commitment and I like to run a tight ship so when I ask for things to get done I expect them done, especially if it's paid work.

Thanks for your interest just a note that information on the website and also posted in the forum really is just a taster if you email me I'll let you in on a lot more

God Bless

Ian

It's looking good.

You might want to compress that picture down a bit. It takes quite a while to load. You should be able to get it down 10 times the size without any loss of information.

Keep it up.

The picture size has gone down which is great.

Just a suggestion, though I know this is extra work. On your opening page you are displaying Saul 240x337, but the picture is really 662x930. I suggest you create a separate image of Saul to the size of 240x337 which will make the image 5 times as small. Which means it will load even quicker.

It is the same on the gallery page. Make some smaller images that link to your full size images. It will make the gallery load up a lot quicker.

Otherwise, it is looking well.

I rarely program in html now. I am too lazy and use WYSIWYG editors. I usually get them for free off the cover of computer magazines.

The one I use the most is Namo Webeditor, because it lets you do both (Html) and WYSIWYG.

Have fun.
