It might not be what I had feared after all. Because of the behavior and the history of this make and model of van, I had been thinking transmission. Tonight I got it to read out the engine error codes, and it seems to be indicating a bad Oxygen Sensor. I'm not a mechanic, but this seems very much less expensive than a transmission.

For the last two days I have been able to drive the van to work (a round trip of around 65 miles), and while there have been symptoms, they have been remarkably gentle. My mechanic/engineer/elder and I are both thinking that, if anything, it is likely an O2 sensor that is bad. He was going to ask his brother (a more experienced mechanic) about the codes that were spit out just to be sure.

Keep praying! The solution might just turn out to be less than what I feared by a factor of fifty or one hundred! Keep Praying!

We continue driving it in hopes that a catastrophic car accident will not happen. Yeah, it's not that likely...

Anyway, praying for your vehicle Bill.

In the past several days, funding has been granted that will allow the purchase of another vehicle. In addition, an application of Lucas Transmission Fix seems to have greatly smoothed out the transmission troubles of the van (although it is still kicking out a code for an O2 sensor), so it seems that there is no desperate hurry to get that other vehicle just yet, and a calm, measured search can be carried out.

Please continue to pray, as those prayers are being answered, even as we speak.
