That the universe is growing faster than we can see it grow....that's pretty wicked awesome....... ------------------ "I am very good at hiding, so if you don't see me, that's where I am." Orc Outlaw, TES III Morrowind |

and because of that, it means when we see, say a star dieing, it accually happened a looooooooooooooooooooong time ago. ------------------ |

Well, once again all of that is conjecture, but its fun to think about..... ------------------ "I am very good at hiding, so if you don't see me, that's where I am." Orc Outlaw, TES III Morrowind |

Not unless when God created everything He made the stars so the light had already reached the earth, which would make sense, given he created everything perfect. ------------------ "I am very good at hiding, so if you don't see me, that's where I am." Orc Outlaw, TES III Morrowind |

how could someone see something like those pictures and believe all this is random and/or accidental??? those are awesome, as is THE DESIGNER. ------------------ proverbs 25:7 www.gfa.org - Gospel for Asia www.persecution.com - Voice of the Martyrs |

Wow, looking into those pictures is awesome... I've always loved to just stare into the night sky (or at beautiful space photos) and just think that one day we'll actually look into the face of God, who created it all! ------------------ |

Another thing that's neat to think about is that our perception is limited, we can only hear a certain range of sound, see a certain spectrum of colors, and smell a certain number of smell. From this fact that our ability to sense and therefore ability to understand and perceive things is limited, it opens up the possibility of things even more amazing that we don't know are there, but we just haven't seen yet or are incapable of seeing or perceiving, who knows that is around up and beyond this planet that is just a little bit beyond out perception, and possibly even beyond our world..... ------------------ "I am very good at hiding, so if you don't see me, that's where I am." I don't understand why people say that a beautiful or good thing "couldn't be random". To me that sounds like a little too much Christianese. I don't see any specific order in those stars. While you alphabet might spell a full sentence, it doesn't mean God made it that way. (metaphor guys. So don't say this example was too specific). There doesn't seem to be a reason that God would be involved in everthing. Personally, I believe he sets things in motion and watches them play out. An example is how we have "free will" (and thats a debate for another time). Would God create each star where he wanted it? perhaps not. Perhaps he just used a series of events to manipulate the course of development. So it seems stupid to me when somebody looks at a tree or scene and says "God is so wonderful.", claiming that he had his hand in that. After he created the systems by which the trees live and reproduce, there'd be no reason for him to get involved thousands of years later. That huge amazing tree is there due to the reproduction and other processes. If you refuse to believe that these processes developed on their own, and that doing so would be completely unbiblical, then fine. But perhaps you can accept the idea that God specifically created all of the processes, then set it in motion. Kindof like procedural programming. ------------------ |

quote: Here's a quote that my dad just sent me in an e-mail recently. I can get more of these special attributes about our solar system if you're interested. This one is a pretty good small taste at how this Earth that He created is so special, and how we can know that He intentionally caused these details about it to form, and not by accident.
quote: So while I see what you mean, Crazyish -- I still think that God is so infinitely intelligent, that when laying out those "processes" you described before the foundation of the world, that He knew enough about all that chaos and randomness such that it wasn't chaos to Him, but He knew exactly what He was doing such that the world would end up as it is now, and able to support life. *That* is a God with power, and an amazingly awesome amount of intelligence. Cheers! --clint [This message has been edited by HanClinto (edited April 21, 2006).] |

Christianese? Wow, I learn a new word every day. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Christianese What is easier to say - Thank you Lord for that beautiful tree and a life full of senses and sensations so I can experience and enjoy this world you have created and worship you and praise you for loving me so much? or Thank you Lord for creating the Laws of Physics, the Laws of Quantum Mechanics, Laws of Thermo-Dynamics creating a visually asthetic, unique specialized self-realizing organism made of cells containing DNA containing self-replication and self-preserving information made of molocules made of atoms made of matter made of quantum particles on a planet in a solar system in a galaxy(not so far away ) in a universe that you made and set in motion. Aren't we thanking God for the same thing? Also, haven't you every experienced something that was so wonderful that it just gave you goosebumps, and made you think 'God..Thank you for THIS!' I have, sometimes just driving to school, I feel the warmeth of the sun on my face, look up at the perfect blue sky with its pillows of clouds and think, God you are SO WONDERFUL!! and somehow I know God loves me! The Bible makes it clear that God created all things and continues to work in the world and to sustain it. Here's some verses to support this. http://www.restoringeden.org/resources/bibleverses (Joh 1:1-3) (Phi 4:4-8) [This message has been edited by coolj (edited April 21, 2006).] |

quote: Well, I don't see it as an accident, and no, I don't see a designer, I see physics. I don't see a designer, I just see it as natural. Oh, and about everything being attuned perfectly for life on our planet by a god... uh, there are a lot of planets out there! The reason we're here is because life is stable on this planet, there are billions of duds out there that cannot support life, that's all. It's ok not to understand some things guys! Don't instantly attribute it to god, it's ok not to know. Another thing! About the stars moving faster than the speed of light so we cannot see them... uh uh. Not gonna happen. The universe may be older/younger than we currently think (14 billion or something like that), but the stars aren't going to move faster than light. If you notice, when people talk about the universe, they often mention the "known" universe. k? [This message has been edited by Unthumper (edited May 15, 2006).] |

unthumper, up your reading on cosmology. I'm talking about space expanding faster than the speed of light. the expansion of the universe is accelerating; under relativity, it's the one thing that can accelerate beyond the speed of light. http://curious.astro.cornell.edu/question.php?number=575

at "those who opposed me": (:-p) a) Christianese makes us sound ignorant. It also usually generalizes things to an annoying, impractical extent. Like people who will pull one verse out of the Old Testament and get everybody in their chruch to say it when they are "believing for something", while still sitting around being lazy. b) Just because something is set up "perfectly", and as we need it in order to live, doesn't mean it was intended. Thats only if you believe in the direct "ex nihilo" creation of things on this earth. To an evolutionist or one who believes God provided catalysts, the order and function of things takes a different meaning. For smaller examples that don't pick a side of that "pseudo-science", I'll go back to the "coincidence" or even "alphabet soup". You bumping into your long last friend after 10 years of silence isn't always an act of God. Maybe, just maybe, you still like the same 80's band and you happened to go see the same reunion concert. :-p I'm not doing a great job of explaining things here, as I'm quite tired (and playing the devil's advocate. It's always harder to come up with support for a side you don't necessarily agree with.) ------------------ |

this is awesome... i'm looking at these pictures... i like the black holes one... hey, when i was first reading this, before it got into the whole creator thing (when it was just about how awesome these stars were, and the dime thing) i was thinking... wow, how geeky can it get? lol... i mean, we were quoting random astronomical/cosmological facts... lol... only on a coders forum... Budd. ------------------ |
