A proposal – CPUFreak91

Introduction:
Several people have commented on the "secular" part of this forum "Going downhill". I agree with them.. some aspects of this forum have gone downhill.

Proposal:
Could we keep the OS topics (help, comments, screenshots, etc) out of the forum as much as possible? (I invite any linux or opensource topics over @ cholug.jqsoftware.com [you windows users have to figure are on your own ]) and get back to the coding part of "Christian Coders Network"?

If you think that i'm trying to take leadership of this forum, I'm not, I just have an idea. (And for that matter, I'm starting a Python discussion right after I click the "Submit New Topic" button).

What do you think?

Possibly a "fun" section for spam, etc, while general discussions stays serious. But, the "fun" section wouldn't show up on the recent topics sidebar.

Bravo, both to CPU and firemaker. CPU for his honest, concise and humble opinion, and firemaker for his excellent solution to the problem.....now where's an admin to make it happen?

Yes, it runs on Linux.

CPU just started a mailing list for Bible Dave yesterday -- he's been working on levels and trying to get through the last "push" to get Bible Dave finished. Jari and I are with him on that, but I don't think either of us have taken much time for Bible Dave lately.

The in-game level editor works really well, and there's already one tutorial on how to do level editing that I wrote -- I can do more on that if need be. The main thing we need right now is levels -- we've got enough AI to make fairly complex and interesting levels (there's at least one challenging touchplate puzzle that was scripted into a level). It's a really powerful game engine that we've worked to set up -- the time consuming part right now is writing levels and polishing them to create enough gameplay. As always, we're looking for help to finish up this community project -- I know I'm anxious to see another one start, I would like to see BD get to 1.0 too though.

Cheers!

I was thinking... how about we have the BD game engine as a separate SF.net project? That way we can work on imroving the game engine without messing with the game itself (Our project has the ability to create a subproject and we can create a new cvs (or better yet a svn) repository to hold it. It will make maintaining a bit easier.

I was thinking, for another community project after Bible Dave is done what about a 3D chat room? Nothing fancy, just a simple chat interface with 3D avatars and some stuff to hang out around (kitchen, living room, or however we wished to design it). Then, to make things really interesting, what about allowing some of the more 3D focused dudes on here to make their own avatars, provided they keep the animations limited and to a certain number of frames and actions (walking, waving, ect.) It would make for a very interesting thing in my opinion, and if we really wanted to get fancy we could add voicechat and possibly even a TV in the main room capable of showing live video feeds .

'Nuff off topic. Do any of you think we should add another forum topic? Just wondering. I would (The "fun" section)

A fun forum would be good, it could have a sticky of the spam thread.
(Assuming UBB has sticky threads)
An operating system discussion and help forum would also be good.
And a sticky thread in Announcements or General Discussions for Introducing Yourself might be nice.

I have started to notice that this forum is going downhill because of the spam... People serious about posting serious stuff then are sometimes unable to post. I know it does get fixed up. But hey, why even need spam?? It is frowned upon by most forums, several even ban users who spam.

I don't understand what you meant by "Could we keep the OS topics .. out of the forum"... How could you not talk about OS topics when your programming!? Lol!! I would like to see this forum as more a a Christian Coders Network, ATM it's more like a 'SpamCan'... Spam, there is no need for it...

yah, spam... it does get annoying, which is why i've been working on curbing it. this place used to be just sort of an outlet for me, now i've found other ways. NO OS TOPICS?! ARE YOU OUT OF YOUR MIND?! lol... it's not just coding, says so in the about page... plus those topics are pretty much almost all the computer stuff here. that and people posting updates on their games.

If you guys want us (Admins) to crack down hard on spam then we can. I check this site multiple times a day and I can toast any topics or users that would be considered spam. The only problem is that sometimes the people posting the spam may not consider it spam.

I totally agree. But then I also agree in freedom of speech We are (most of)Christian Coders, and we talk about subjects we find interesting. I think the OS chats that we have are great, if people can find informative stuff from it and it helps them learn then thats a good thing right?

This site has changed lots over the years. I don't post nearly as much as i used to. I think it just needs to get some character back

Could always make a totaly different forum on a totaly different server for the spam-like stuff. I think <some of> its kinda fun actualy. If youve been watching the Girls topic though, youll notice its actualy attracting people to the site

The topics are really boring (to me)! why don't you start a subject about Lord of the Rings? Me and my brother sword fight... Let's start a sword fighting section!

Lol, actually the thread was made by guys, about girls, but it is now our general spam topic, so we have went over many subjects over it's 30+ page span, straying away from the subject of girls, so swords, guns and many others things have been talked about since the thread creation, lol.

Did I call you a girl? Your post seems like I did, but I don't see anything in what I said suggesting that I did, lol.

But yes, I know you're a guy, assuming from your screen name, lol.

Hahaha. That first post of mine sounds so naive. (But the forums have improved).

Actually there's 3 here.
He didn't call you a girl. He was referring to DedicatedRider, tonyx and mjohnson.
