Methinks that CCN could use some more (and more active) moderators. Not to sign anyone up, but I'd give two thumbs up for any one of the following people if they acepted the moderator job:
HanClinto
Vincent
Jari
Lava
HeardTheWord
Tonyx

More people that I forgot to mention:
DedicatedRider
Kiwee

I'm honored and humbled to be on the list of nominations. One issue I see with adding more moderators is that there really aren't forum rules layed out in much clarity here on CCN. There isn't a standard clearly set out for us to follow, and so people are expected to behave on their own standards and of their own judgement.

I'm all for more active moderation on these boards, but what good are more moderators if they don't have a clear set of rules to enforce?

Respectfully,
clint

lol. Welcome to the fracas, Klumsy.

Last I heard, in order to get to be a moderator one needs to send stuff through Paypal to an address like klumsy at christiancoders.com or something.

I love klumsy's av. Looks like Jesus.

Anyway, my point in posting here is to say that I'd be glad to see any of those people CPU listed as moderators, as well as CPU himself.

I was thinking of the slashdot style from the 90's: pick people whom you like

I hope I'm not stepping on anyone's toes but, klumsy, I think you should just ask someone you (and/or the community) thinks is a worthy candidate.
Just my 2 cents.

EDIT: Well, the people in the above list are strong in: apoligizing for being wrong, and standing up for what's right. So if I were an Admin the General mod requirments would be: Don't favor anyone. Of course, you may have to write out a few guide lines, or allow the new mods form guidelines thmselves.

EDIT2: Here's some results from Google:

quote:
A Moderator is term used in Forums / Chat rooms and is someone entrusted by the forums administrator to help regulate postings in the chat room.

quote:
at a forum, someone entrusted by the administrator to help discussions stay productive and within the guidelines.
www.tobysimkin.com/reference/Ref_Net_Glossary_Terms.asp[/quote]

quote:
A forum member who has certain administrative powers, such as the power to open/close threads, move them to other forums, delete threads, edit posts, and other similar things.
galactica.tauniverse.com/m.html

quote:
A moderator is a person who monitors the quality of a comment posted on a site, message board or IRC channel. The purpose is to prevent trolling, abuse of the comment system, and ultimately ensure that posts are not clearly antagonizing others.

han is probably my top choice on that list.
but, also, I think he hits on a very good point.

if we want to see change, we first need to lay out the responsibilities and guidelines of a moderator before we just recruit more manpower.

how strict do we really want these boards?

With XX moving our development forums off of the CCN forum and relocating to our own internal server I haven't been actively 'posting' but I have been actively 'admin lurking’. Arch is coming up close to my post count however so maybe I should start actively posting again.

Kryler covers everything; he owns the site, he pays the bills so he can do what he wants. He’ll be spearheading the new site development, which we’re all excited about.

I elected Klumsy to cover the numerous theological discussions that CCN used to cover. At one time we had 4-5 large, multi page theological discussions about faith, believe, etc. and I couldn’t keep up with it. I also believe that he is more spiritually and mentally mature which was a huge deciding factor on my part to elect him. In the end it was Krylers major choice to give the thumbs up, which I am still very glad that he did.

I cover most of the general topics, make sure to keep out the primary problems (porn, non intelligent trolls, etc.) and respond to complaints (which I’ve had one in like 2 years).

Wow, thanks for all the votes of support guys ... it makes me go all mushy inside.

Good point, Arch. I kindof like how easy-going these boards are -- how easy it is to sign up, to post, to start new threads, to speak freely -- it's pretty nice that way. As long as it doesn't get too abused (which only happens occasionally), then it's probably fine.

I guess I'd like to see more power to move/delete threads into appropriate categories, and perhaps locking them when they get out of control (sometimes I've wondered if the "need lots of help " thread could use a lockdown).

I think that the element of immaturity and freeness can be fun on the boards here, but it would be nice to be able to move them to an area that didn't flood out the posts related to Christian gaming/programming. Much like how the politics category doesn't show up on the main front page, perhaps if the "off-topic" category didn't show up in the main front page either, that could help the site keep its goals a little better?

Just thinkin' out loud.

Cheers!

I think that the entire site needs a refocus to some extent, sometimes it feels as if CCN as ceased to be a game design site and has instead become a social gathering point and spam puddle. It'd be nice if, either using Han's suggestion or some other type of intelligent and reasonable solution, we could refocus the site and get back to game design. A large part of that depends on the users though, alot of us either are too busy on games to post much, or aren't working on games and therefore have nothing game design related to talk about.....

I also support Han as a moderator, if he's up to it. Many off-topic threads need to be moved to general discussion from all over the forums. Spam and flames should be deleted. Some discussions need to be capped. Most of this has been said, but I wanted to strengthen these particular sentiments.

I think there should be different active lists based on category. Thats what CCGR has, and it realy is nice. The spam I think was VERY recently started though... maybe not, but thats what it seems like to me.

we had our spam beautifully confined to a big topic beofre. (girls thread).

it has recently started spreading though.

I guess we should find some people who want to be mods, and either Klumsy can just appoint, or if you guys want to be all democratic maybe we should vote or something. my $.02

Mack/Klumsy,

You guys lemme know if you want to extend powers to anyone and I'll get it all setup.

Everyone: I've not been spending much time on any sites lately cause I'm beyond swamped. Apologies all around. I've been working all day at my real job and then all night and weekends at my hope-to-be-someday-real-soon-my-own-business job. Starting a business is rather brutal and consumes much of one's time. But, here's hoping it works out!

Anyways, that means that changes to this site--while STILL planned--are further delayed than I'd hoped.

New moderators are cool by me, though. Just lemme know the scoop Mack/Klumsy, and I'll get on it. PM is cool

Thanks!

I'm all for more active moderators, but I think that what HanClinto mentioned is a good prerequisite to bringing in active moderators.

Here are some questions whose answers would be a good start
What standards should be set for this forum?
What defines spam?
What limitations should there be on spam? (e.g., 3/user/day like someone said? or 1/thread/user/day?)
What about off-topic posts?

What powers should the mods have?
Banning?
Post deletion with a note (deleted by mod because: spam/OT/offensive/etc)?
etc.

Spamming is basically...

well, such as my post. (I've been trying not to post useless junk around here, hard work!) It generally relates to something compeletly off topic or a bunch of adds (I mod at a different forum (yes me!!) and theres this one jerk who keeps posting 8 paragraph-long links to all sorts of rip-off and dirty sites (no, i never clicked on them) that could also be spamming (the jerks always a guest, has no real account so i can't bann him...)

I spam the most, and i can't even describe what spam is!

Grrr..

I also think spam is worse when it's done imappropiately or all of the time, like for example, someone could just say "LOL" to someone's post, no big deal right? But I think it's when they say "LOL" to EVERY post than it gets worse

If you are speaking with a group of people face to face, and somebody says something that makes everyone else stop and go "what the heck.." or "and..?", thats what constitutes spam. Lack of necessity or lack of relevancy.
