Has there been any talk about updating the CCN website? First of all I would like to complement the guys who designed the site and keeping CCN up and running. You guys have set up a unique nitch website, and the with the tools of the time it is harder than it looks I know. As far as changes and updates I would recommend doing doing away with the "frames" and just using a server side script to spit out html. We use ASPX and CFM at work so that all the complicated processing gets done at the server and the client web page is just the html the gets spit back we are even able to get around some (Netscape/IE/Firefox) browser incompatibility issues this way. One of my projects at work was to design and build an industry search engine for the concrete construction industry (not publicly accessable yet). I ran it on the CCN homepage, I could post the results sometime if you want, but mostly it was nonimpressive becuase of the frame jumping it left HTML fragments where there should have been 1 single html page. I also plan (God Willing) to post as much C# code as I can since I am still learning C# and CCN seems to lack source code resources. You have the catagories but they don't seem very full yet. Now we just need Gods' blessing to pack down, shaken together, filled to over flowing the containers. Not sure how long the Black background, and over look of the site has been in place but it may be time to "update" the look and feel of the site. I would suggest something simple like a plain white background, and some photoshop type graphics to spice it up. Also I think it would be benifical to hold some kind of contest to come up with new avatars. The ones that are currently in place are great, but maybe some new ones will help keep every thing about this site looking "up to date". Sorry if this seem as kind of a downer, and its ok to criticize the source ("me") because I have no website of my own, and now where to host it if I did. But I do work on websites, 3D animation, and programming at my day job so I do have a decient background in that regard. I hope these are recieved as constructive comments and not detramental, because I would hope to encourage not tear down. Gary ------------------ |

CCN gets a face lift? I've thought about that too. When I first came to the site I thought the main page was confusing (still do on occasion). Since the forums seem to be the most popular place perhaps they should be easy to access from the home page, without looking too hard. I would have to agree with mr_friend about some of the points he made because I think we could expand the community with a bit of extra work on the site. My free time is limited but I would be willing to put in a bit of extra work to see it happen. Just my two cents. |

quote: To be fair, he could be considered a voice of the new visitor to the site. I mean, he's honestly talking about his issues with the site as a newcomer. The longer someone has been here, the more jaded they are to the problems with the site as they become more used to the system and working around its problems. New users probably have some of the most valuable advice as far as how to make things friendlier. ------------------ |

This has been brought up a few times in the past, it remains Krylars choice if he wants the site to be re-done or not. If we had some dedicated helping hands that would probably make the choice a bit easier. [This message has been edited by Mack (edited July 05, 2005).] |
