Is this a Windows only organization? – TallBill

Hoping to get your attention, I used that subject line deliberately. The reason is that I just did a search in the showcase area and found zero hits on "Mac" and zero hits on "Macintosh". This is to say nothing of Linux or Amiga (If there isn't anything for Macintosh, why even bother searching for any other non-windows entries). I'd love to take a look at what's available here, but I have an Amiga and a Macintosh, not Windows. It gets a little boring playing solitaire and I don't know if I have the patience to learn a golf game. :-) HELP!!!.

In short, where are the releases that include platforms other than windows and Linux?

"...prayer itself is an art which only the Holy Ghost can teach us. He is the giver of all prayer. Pray for prayer---pray till you can pray; pray to be helped to pray, and give not up praying because you cannot pray, for it is when you think you cannot pray that you are most praying. Sometimes when you have no sort of comfort in your supplications, it is then that your heart---all broken and cast down---is really wrestling and truly prevailing with the Most High."

TallBill,

I'll let Krylar comment on the organization of CCN.

In the meantime, our game, Jarod's Journey, can be played via a Mac. That is the strength of Interactive Fiction. I'm not sure if you will be able to enjoy the graphics or sound though but the game is completely playable without those.

You can find links to a Mac version of the TADS player at tads.org and I'll need to provide you with the latest .gam file. Probably best to Email that to you, so EMail me where you want it (or that you want it if you just want me to use your Earthlink address).

Merry Christmas to all!
Tim

I do Mac. My mostly Mac (Classic) stuff is at curryk.com--it's truly in need of an update, and I'm still working on redoing it in a new IDE to be cross-platform and have more up-to-date features. I will probably keep designing on the Mac, but I don't expect to do very many Mac-only releases from now on; or Windows only either, hopefully. I really want to be cross-platform only!

But probably only Mac and Windows for the near future. Linux I would like to support but it's not convenient to install it and learn it right now, probably I'll try it later. Amiga looks interesting but my IDE doesn't support it. (Isn't it by Commodore? I used to have a C64.)

Speaking as an Amiga nut from way back - people still code for Amiga ?

I have an A600 and an A500 which I play old games on. It's great, they cost me close to nothing on ebay.

OK you two (Graceworks and Curryk), you'll both have to point me at your Mac-able and Amiga-able works. I've downloaded the TADS player and documentation. I also downloaded the Amiga version while I was there. Will Jarod's Journey work on the Amiga version?

Yeah, just send the .gam file to my earthlink address.

Curryk, when Commodore still was, Amiga was indeed a commodore product. Now, after two liquidation bankrucpies and a corporate sale of the "Amiga Division" of Gateway2000 to Amino Development Corp at the beginning of 2000The Amiga is now owned by Amino, who has since changed their name to Amiga, Inc. And one of the things they are doing is developing a hardware agnostic Operating System, using a virtual processor. You right for the virtual processor and where it goes you go. So far they have something called the "Amiga Anywhere Content Engine", or AACE. Check them out at www.amiga.com

TallBill,

I'll Email the .gam shortly. Turns out there is a TADS player for Amiga as well, same .gam file should work.
http://ifarchive.org/if-archive/programming/tads2/executables/AmigaTADS255.lha

Also, one Mac TADS player supposedly supports multimedia. If you are able to use this version, I'd REALLY appreciate the feedback on how (or if) it works. I can send the multimedia files as well (FYI, I do have a donated mac but need a keyboard cable for it ... and some free time!). You can get "HyperTADS" (the multimedia capable TADS player for Mac) at:
http://teladesign.com/hypertads/

Lastly, just found a brand new game that supports MAC! I kid you not. Unfortunately, it is the weakest (or should I say simplest) of the three titles from ... Big Idea! Their Veggie Carnival CD is a dual Win/Mac CD. Don't get me wrong, it is fun but list price is only $10 for a reason (not much to it). Okay, requirements for the mac are - OS 9, G3-400 MHz, 64 Meg RAM, CD-ROM (8x but I don't think it matters after it installs), 100 Meg of hard drive space. How about that.

I just went through the game all the way through Ceaseria. As far as I can tell, everything works on the Mac. I got 3 out of the 4 Jarod files onto the Amiga. I'll hit the web site for the fourth (*.rs2). Getting the AmigaTADS engine from the IF-Archive is proving a bit difficult from the Amiga. I'll see if I can have some success transferring it from the Mac (The two don't like each other's floppies and web cruising at 25MHz is a bear.).

Unfortunately, I can't use Mac OS9 as my accellerator won't work with it. I tried out a friend's OS9 CD with it. After installing OS9, the extension that runs my accellerator would lock up on launch every time.

I'm playing around with some Java, but don't keep any hopes up - I might take an indefinite amount of time to finish my current project .

Hey!

I've got the on-line version (text only, no multimedia) working. I'm waiting for Richard to wring it out. If you have time and want to try it, let me know via Email - Tim AT GraceWorksInteractive DOT com.

God bless,
Tim

I've been having trouble with downloads on my Amiga, so I figure that later today, I'll go by Kinko's, rent a computer, and download the needed file to a zip disk. That way I can get the file over to the Amiiga much easier. Once that's all done, I'll check it out full bore on the Amiga. As I said in my previous posting, Jarod's Journey works great on the Mac using HyperTADS. So far on the Amiga, it works fine, but without that *.rs2 file, I can't test everything on the Amiga. We'll see.
