Just thought I'd share this widescreen public domain fractal desktop that I made. I call it: IceWeasel It was really simple to make. All I had to do was pick a few cool looking fractal images, colourize them, and shrink, rotate or move them around till I got something that looked nice. Here are the instructions to make them in Gimp: To colourize the fractal click on the Layer menu and then Colours > Colour Balance and adjust the colours. I'd like to see the fractal images of those who have time to make and post a few. ------------------ "Oh, bother," said the Borg. "We've assimilated Pooh." I'm pretty picky with my desktops and I gotta say... this has some artistic appeal. I'll probably use it in the near future. ------------------ |

Wow! That's very tempting. Thanks for providing the steps in the GIMP. I may try that out. I like to use my own photographs for backgrounds, though. But it'd still be fun to try it out for myself. I have a really slow system, so it may be more like MAKE some coffee. |

quote: Yep. 1.8 GHz 512MB. This is why I have wanted a new computer. Photo manipulations take a really long time. Most photos I do some simple editing. I rarely go into something fancy, but when I do, it's sloooooow. |

I don't usually use anything but a plain color for my desktop wallpaper because of memory usage... but the urge to have my desktop look the same as mastallama's was too great to resist. |

Hmm... here's one: And here's another: And here's a third. I was working on a fourth when Gimp crashed. *mutters under his breath* |

I like the third one there. ------------------ "Oh, bother," said the Borg. "We've assimilated Pooh." "Socialism works great... if there are no people involved." -- Pastor David Ginter, Union Church of Guatemala. |

Not bad. I like 'em. haha, for a certain period of time I really liked making fractal backgrounds with gimp. I would post one, but that would be like hijacking the thread. [This message has been edited by epsons (edited August 17, 2007).] |

The thread's already resurrected -- I don't see any reason why you shouldn't go ahead and post your own fractals. BTW, I don't think I've welcomed you to CCN yet. Welcome to CCN! --clint |

Did I bump an old topic? I'll try not to do that very often. I'll find one then. |

Not too old -- just two months. I don't mind the occasional one (especially if it's directly relevant to the original discussion), but I think you're on the right track -- keeping it to a minimum is a good idea. Nice to have you with us here on the boards. --clint |

All that I have on my imageshack account right now is one I made into an album art... It'll do, though.

That is really beautiful! |

Thanks! No other one I made turned out quite like that, though... EDIT: Dug up a couple more. Just a little wallpaper thingy.
this one ChickenSoup of ccgr made for me, which I also used as an album art. Kind of him, and it turned out swell.

I actually took a fractal I made using this method and edited in GIMP and entered it in my college art show. I don't think any of the offical instructors were actually able to think of it as real "art" but alot of the other students were impessed and everyone who saw it seemed to like it. Noone bought it though. I printed a limited edition of five and so far I've only sold one, and that was to my grandparents . ------------------ |

So are any of the other ones Public Domain? I know that CPUFreak91's first one is, but would anyone else mind if i dled/edited their work and used it for my desktop? Thanks for the cool pictures one way or the other! ------------------ We're standing on the shores of forever - where stars are shining brighter than before. And peace is the Prince of the moment. Feel free to use the one of mine that isn't an album art in any way you like, but I think my album arts probably shouldn't be modified in case of a commercial release... Gotta be thinking ahead here. |

It's amazing what you guys can do in a 2D drawing program. I'm using them myself from time to time but I never thought you can go that far. ------------------ [This message has been edited by Calin (edited August 18, 2007).] |
