i was just downloading the latest version of open office so i figured i'd tell y'all about it, incase there is someone here who doesn't know about it. it's basiccally a free alternative to microsoft office, and is compatible with microsoft office as well. so if you're school or workplace requires you to do/save/turn in work any of the microsoft office formats(ie. word, excel, powerpoint) but you don't want to fork over $100 or more you can download openoffice from http://www.openoffice.org . i haven't messed with it that much, but i also haven't started doing a lot of reports for school yet...anyway...open source software is great . some of you experienced people should feel free to add info or answer questions if anyone asks...also if someone who has a lot of experience with this would do an article it might prove useful(hint, hint.). ------------------ proverbs 25:7 www.gfa.org - Gospel for Asia www.persecution.com - Voice of the Martyrs |

I like the idea of open office. But the school district I work for still wants to pay the $50 per copy for MS office. Many teachers and administration are still complaining and frustrated because they had to switch from Word Perfect three years ago. Users! -Sometimes you just can't win. ------------------ |

i can understand going with microsoft in a business situation, since it is, i believe, the easiest to use. prob'ly due to the fact there's several books available for it, and it's the standard. i like using open source stuff because it's cross-platform capabilities. i'm no coder, but even i get the benefits of that. plus open source is a whole lot cheaper . ------------------ proverbs 25:7 www.gfa.org - Gospel for Asia www.persecution.com - Voice of the Martyrs |

I just used it for a presentation for school. I don't have PowerPoint at home so I thought I'd give it a shot. I was able to create it with no problem and even save as powerpoint, worked flawlessly. I love it. It looks like they have a Database app as part of openoffice now too (like Access), I don't know how new this feature is (my previous version of openoffice was pretty old) but definitely be worth checking out. |

OpenOffice is great, Higly recommend it. It's great that one can download free OS and software to it, instead of supporting MS. ------------------ string LordAndSaviour() { return "Jesus Christ"; } // [VoHW][Blog] |

It's great . Been using the 1.x series for some time, and the 2.0 version is much improved . The best thing is, nobody knows that I'm using it instead of MS Office, even if they "require" me to use MS Word to create my documents . ------------------ |

not sure what version I have, but I didn't bother to buy M$ office, and am happily using open office instead. ------------------ |
