Anyone here as keen as I am to see the final of the RWC? If so who do you think is going to win?

i'm going to boycott it and pout since the all blacks lost against aussie !!!!
actually i am quite thankful, many of us thanked God for humbling our country and taking away the idol that it is. since rugby is the national religion over here.

We Aussies normally rise to the challenge, (that's how we beat those kiwis). As for the England match, we'll have to 'lower' to the challenge...

Aussie Aussie Aussie, OI OI OI!!

Hi Jas,

That is a good point of view. I hope we can still be friends when England humiliate Australia on their home soil. England are no1 team in the world and England have beaten Australia in their last four games together.

Can't wait till we wipe the smug face off of the aussie's. Over here no-one really cares what the score is, but they take it really seriously, so added bonus when we win... yay \o/

"what exactly is rugby?"

It's similar to American football but without the shoulder pads and long breaks, if that makes sense

dont take this wrong-----but we have a rugby team? dang I never knew----that is one thing I wish we (usa) were into more---international sports------England VS Austrailia has a much more epic sound to it than Tampa Bay VS Oakland-------------I wish we were more----i dunno if extroverted is the right word or not-------but I wish our international teams like the rugby team would get more recognition cause it sounds like a cool game to say the least hehe:-)

Err... wrong... A good English victory, we let you Aussies back into the game for a while, then jus humiliated you in front of your own crowd, to take the cup!!!

Yay for England!!!

grrrrr...

btw, a damp squib? One of my old work mates (a pommie) used this term all the time whenever something that was expected to go big, just sort of never really happened.

I assumed it was a commonly used UK term.

squib is commonly a term referring to a small explosive device, usually remotely detonated, used frequently in motion pictures. it is commonly used to explode a small bag of red syrup to simulate blood, or to fire off some very small powder charges to simulate the effects of bullets penetrating someone's clothing, etc. i've heard that sometimes these things can sting quite fierce.
thus, a damp squib would be the equivalent of a dud firecracker, or a weak pop instead of a big bang.

We don't need a rugby team cuz we got Football.
Football beats rugby. 'nuff said.
our football players can beat up your rugby players.

I am not really into football tho----------------but football without pads sounds interesting to me tho---------------------------but either way I must admit it is hard for me to watch other people playing a game on tv and having fun----it makes me want to go do something

haha, same here. I'm actually not a big fan of the NFL, I don't have a "team." But I do like to see a good game, and even more, play one! I'm a player, not a spectator. we men.

yeah, that's what most rugby fans say, until they meet a professional football player. besides, I personally don't like breaking a bone every 2 months.

you obviously haven't met Jonah lomu then , send your biggest and baddest gridiron team down here for a brawl HAHAHA

b.t.w i wouldn't use the word football, because to different people it means different things

in the USA, it means Grid Iron, or american football
to most of the world it means soccer
and to us kiwis and a few others it means rugby.

with pads or without pads, american football has become more hype, marketting and gloss than real sport IMO.

RUGBY RUGBY RUGBY

actually i don't really care, i'm not like most kiwis whose lives are based around the game and the all blacks, i didn't follow the world cup hardly at all , didn't see one game . as for sports i like doing rather than watching, and rugby isn't a game i've played since middle school, other than at a church BBQ or something like that

Here in Australia, football means either Rugby League (which is similar to Rugby Union but more popular, though I can't see why), or if you are in some states, it refers to a game called Australian Rules, (formerly known as VFL) which is an absolute hoot to play! Aussie Rules is sometimes referred to as Aerial PingPong, and it is a phenomenal game to play!

Jas---can you explain Aussie Rules? You got me hyped up ona cool idea for a game and then your post ended hehe----has anyone every wondered why we Americans call our grid-iron football? The ball rarely touches their foot----shouldn't it be 'chase the dude with the lemon ball' or 'wrestling with direction'? lol jk----I bet there is more than one American on this forum that is going to spam my inbox now for that one hehe------either way I have two fav sports---Paintball and Dance Dance Revolution (Dancing Stage Euro Mix to the British and Europeans on the board here---not sure what it is in Aussie but i am assuming Dancing Stage)------both are international classics!!!!

That was the worst first half I have ever seen Aus play. But it ended up a close game.

It all boils down to england's NO. 10 must destroy...

I'll have a go, but EA have made a couple of PC versions of it, called AFL Live (including a 2004 version), but I've just tried to find a demo to download for you, but no luck I'm afraid. Well, here goes:

Teams play on an oval field. The goal is to kick the ball (similar shape to a grid iron ball) through a set of posts at opposite ends of the field. You get the ball to the ends by either kicking it, running with it, or passing it using a special technique similar to a volleyball serve. You can kick/pass it any direction you want, and there's no offside rules really so the ball zings all over the field in short order. If you get tackled, and fail to pass/kick the ball before being immobilized, you may be penalised. If you catch the ball on the full after someone kicks it (called a mark), you can stop, and take the next kick at your leisure, possibly stringing a set of marks together, almost like a game of chess all the way down the field. The game is fierce and frantic, and a great spectator sport.
There's a few more details, but that's the basic gist, oh, except for one other thing, there's actually 4 posts at each end, if you get it through the middle set, you get 6 points (or a goal), through the outside sets, gets you a point. So a quick sloppy kick might still get you something.
Here's a pic:
