I spent the last few weeks searching the web trying to find a program which to build an isometric engine - and finally I decided to try Blitzbasic. Just a thought Krylar - in the Blitzbasic Demo documentation, it has www.christiancoder.com for further articles. You might want to see if they will put www.blitzcoder.com there instead. It is fantastic that BlitzBasic 2d demo lets you do everything you want for free except create executables (and use png. jpg. mp3 media files). I hope other amateur programmers like me make the most of this. So Krylar, you finally got me (he he he). Merry Christmas everyone! Revelator! ------------------ |

Have you ever heard of CDX? It's absolutley free, and has built-in isometric map support. It's basically a set of 24 easy to use C++ classes, and you can do some pretty funky effects with them. Even cooler than that, you can pick things apart and optimize them as you please. CDX is available at http://www.cdxlib.com From there, you can use Mappy to make isometric maps, and load them in on the fly using CDX. Good luck on your game |

Hiya, Yeah, I love Blitz Basic. Actually got contracted to write a "Learn to Program Games in Blitz Basic" book. *Trying* to complete it by February CDX is also very cool, but I don't believe it supports 3D stuff yet. Is that true? I played with CDX a while back and thought it was very nice. If you're new to programming, Basic is probably easier to learn than C++. Plus since BB includes basically everything: 2D,3D,sounds,music,multiplayer,collision detection...and they're all used with easy commands, it lets you get to the game programming pretty much immediately. Best of luck and merry Christmas! -Krylar ------------------ |

Hiya. No I did not know about CDX - thanks for the link. I did not know that Mappy did isometric maps. All the screenshots show a direct top down view. I will have to down load it to make my maps. I am having fun with Blitzbasic though. I want to make it totally open so anyone can create a mod which can completely change the game. I don't care about not making money. Anyway, Merry Xmas. Hi Klumsy. The game I am developing is a non violent RPG. The obstacles are the people who don't want you to accomplish your mission. The way you overcome these obstacles is by making these people your friends (by doing them favours) Or going into "prayer mode" where you can see the evil angels influencing them, and then you "destroy" the angels by firing God's word at them. When the evil angels are destroyed, you are more likely to influence the person to help you (though not guarenteed). Or you can try and destract the person and walk around them. You can put on disguises too etc. You can only do "moral" things. If you steal something to help someone so that they will help you, then your "spirituality" goes down, and you need to do something (pray for forgiviness etc) to get it back up again. You can even try to convert people into Christians, but that is very risky and you may be killed by village guards if it backfires.
If I can get this to work good on Blitzbasic, I may port it to a better engine with more graphic effects.

Hi Klumsy. Happy Sabbath to you too (he he he). I think Blitzbasic has what it takes to do the game. It is only 2d graphics and running at 640x480 I should easily keep it to 30 fps. I am working on an isometric map creator with VB4, but may yet use Blitzbasic to make it. Will see... Glad your wife likes my game. (So does mine, and she gets better scores than I do.) It would be nice if you did register it. (You get heaps extra options) But anyway, to put your own text in, go and change the .ver file to .txt Then you can put in your own Bible text, then change it back to a .ver file. It should work...(I think???, the demo version is different to the registered one and its been a year since I worked on it) I was working on a version that would let you use any verse in the Bible, but Darkbasic was a bit klumsy to use. Blitzbasic would be better. I live in Sydney and we are having huge bushfires at the moment. There is smoke everywhere... If you are ever in Sydney, drop me a line... Revelator! ------------------ |
