Look at his diatribe on Catechumen, War in Heaven, etc... (all of the latest games are on the guy's list). Now granted that he's talking about Christian education, and games don't place a great deal of importance on education, but I'm bringing this link to your attention for the guy's views on games that are based on some sort of spiritual combat (almost everything from Spiritual Warfare to Catechumen, probably even Mack's Revelation has some elements of spiritual combat in it). I thought everyone liked Peretti's books!!!! I don't understand

No wonder it's impossible for games to get acceptance from the mainstream Christian consumers! If this guy's opinion represents even a third of the Christian consumers out there, we're going to have a hard time selling the legitimacy of our games, much less the games themselves to the public!

Question: which literary works can we base our games upon?? It seems to me that Peretti's Piercing the/This Present Darkness should be okay. I guess it's not.
By-question: Are we being sent the message that, theologically, our games are not up to par???

Take it with a grain of salt. You can't please everyone.

In my opinion, the guy has some double standards. He rejects games like Catechumen and War in Heaven because of "violence" and "spiritual warfare". I wonder if he also rejects certain books/chapters of the Bible for the same reasons.

Although I think some of his reasons are legit (there's a lot of low-quality Christian software out there!), I don't see his views as being either typical or very influential. As well, 90% of the titles he listed were never intended to be "educational" software in the first place. "Adventures with Chickens" is listed for crying out loud.

And yes, Revelation will be *heavy* into spiritual warfare. It will probably give this guy the desire to dedicate an entire "'absolutely not' shelf" page to it.

To answer your question Revelation offer's tons of fast paced spiritual combat sure to keep the player on there toes all the time. A good chunk of the game takes place in the "spiritual realm" (which was mentioned in our interview with CGaming a year ago).

This type of stuff is clearly what Two Guys Software is against, and thats why we say we're a "Hardcore Christian Company" too many people are (excuse the language) jam-ass's when it comes to it. I like to call these people "candy coated Christians" where they can't take anything, you mention satan, and they flip out saying your over-glorifying him. Thats why we're expecting a huge positive, and a huge negitive uproar against Revelation.

Well, heres my two rupees, for what there worth:

Spiritual warfare is the realm of angels, and is not, and cannot be involved in it, other then in prayer, For when we pray, we realese the angels to do what they must. I don't think games based on playing the role of an angel are very good, only because we really dont know that much about them. we can't deturmine what they can really do, what they even look like, or what spiritual warfare is really like. I know this might not go over well, sorry, but thats how i see it.

However, is someone took the time to make a decent christian game, i'd play it just to play a christian game, since there are so few of them. If i had a bigger selection, i'd avoid spiritual warfare completly. (nothing against your game mack)

In respect to frank peretti, he's got a great story, but no one really knows if thats what spiritual warefare is like that. It's just a sorry, and cannot be taken as fact. That said, i thourly enjoy his works, but consider them mostly fiction.

What christian storys should we look to for guidence in game design, i would say, look unto CS Lewis's Narnia series. Here is a great fantasy series, that does not try to creat spiritual warfare, but real warefare, good against evil. This is something most people stand for, even unbelivers. Tho i am currently making a non-violent RPG, i think a violent game could be made, as long as the reason for the violence is clearly valid (direted by God, self defence, or destruction of evil). The only reason i'm not making mine violent is because it's VERY dificult to justify violence at all times, IE, why they have to fight each battle. If this isn't possible, then violence should not be used. I currently have enough to worry about ^_^

Well, that's my views, and i hope there right, cause i belive them strongly. This is only one veiw point of course, and i respect all other opinions if they have logical arguments.

Peace in God's Love,

i agree with veritech here, i only just read the first peretti two days ago, having run out of other books to read... we have not the foggiest clue what the angels do, and i like perettis books as they are pretty darn good reading, but i think they are fictional, all the battles & whatnot. A proper decent Narnia type game would be brilliant, perhaps even an RPG Lion-witch-wardrobe would be good, playing as the 4 (or just the 3) kids.

One of the things I dont like about many computer games is theyre using of false gods, demons, etc, and often *dont* display them as bad. also, just plain violence is so boring for me (eg, FPS with no puzzle-solving). I've never really played an RPG, as the only ones I've ever seen are about 10 years old, are written in DOS with loads of BIOS calls, crash all the time, and look horrible.

Actually, recently, I've been finding computer games in general boring, I used to play a lot, but more and more I've found it more fun to play outside, read, or if using the comp., then code somthing/browse the net.

ManProf, I recommend try playing: System Shock 2, Thief 1-2, Half Life, Diablo 2, Baldurs Gate 2, you could probably download the demo's at fileplanet.com

For me, I love Spiritual Warfare type of stuff, and I've collected as much information about it from the Bible as I could. I also picked up several books describing several aspects of Spiritual Warfare and describing several uses of Spiritual Warfare in the Bible. Good stuff, and don't worry Ver, everyone has thier own view on subjects. But I know you'll enjoy Revelation.
